Reports from XC Champs and Indoor Comps
The temperature has plummeted over the last week, which has played havoc with training and parkruns - but there were some scorching performances from Team Blyth Juniors this week.

On Wednesday was the latest opportunity to race indoors a Gateshead this winter. In the 60m, Safia put in a strong run in the fastest U13 heat, whilst Ben was once again fastest boy as he set a new PB. Izabela and Aman improved their PB's from last month, whilst India, Amara and Caitlin improved their PB's from last season by a huge margin. Senna and Alfie both got two opportunities to run in the seeded races, getting there seasons off to a solid start. In the 60m hurdles, Senna made her debut over the U17 spacing and produced a solid opener. Aman, Izabel and Ben all made their hurdles races debuts and were fantastic. On Thursday it was field events, with Ben getting close to 4m in his first long jump competition, whilst Senna and Caitlin produced fine series, woking on key technical points. India made her debut with the 2.72kg shot put, and exceeded all expectations, with Senna throwing over 8m.

On Saturday, icy conditions greeted our athletes for the NECAA XC championships at Temple Park. Frankie Foster was our representative in the U13 boys race, finishing 39th in a strong field, whilst Luke Stewart was 46th in the U15 race. Fantastic committment and grit from both athletes during a week when conditions have been extremely challenging.

Down in Sheffield, 6 of our juniors were in action at the Northern Indoor Open in Sheffield as they looked to set early benchmarks. Lauren Creaby produced a stunning performance in the 600m, absolutely smashing her own club record and recording the fastest time by a female athlete in any age group. Younger sister Caitlin was also in PB form, lowering her PB in the 60m to 8.77s, and smashing her 150m best despite a stumble on the bend. Isla Bell was making her Sheffield debut, and set big PB's in the 60m and 150m, showing how far she has come in the last year. Hollie was one of the fastest U15 girls in both the 60m and 150m, setting PB's in both events, whilst Ben set a new PB in the hurdles, was fastest U13 boy in the 60m and was 1st U13 in the long jump. Sadie opened her indoor season in fine style, with a new personal best in the 60m, and she was within a whisker of the 300m indoor club record for all age groups, and was significantly quicker than her outdoor PB. Every athlete put in a fantastic and encouraging early season performance.

There are not many indoor track and field opportunties for younger athletes, especially U11's. Here is a great series that is a bit further afield in Sheffield. Register here

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
