Within this e-zine you will find all the latest information about funding grants, coach education & club development workshops, sports development programmes and any other information that may be of interest.

Senior Sport Awards 2023

FINAL CALL for nominations for the Senior Sports Awards 2023 sponsored by Ulster Carpets. Nominations close on Friday 6th January at 5pm. 

Organised by the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Sports Forum in association with the Council, the annual awards recognise the wealth of sporting talent in the borough and celebrate the achievements of those who have excelled in their chosen sport, as well as recognising the invaluable contribution from our coaches and volunteers.

Nominations are sought in the eight categories of:

  • Sports Person / Team with a Disability
  • Sportswoman of the Year
  • Sportsman of the Year
  • Senior Team of the Year
  • Senior Coach of the Year
  • Service to Sport
  • Volunteer 
  • Club of the Year
Nominees should be competing at County/Regional level or above for achievements between January 2022 and December 2022 and must be over 18 at the time of competition. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 9 March 2023 at the Seagoe Hotel, Portadown.

If your Club has celebrated a significant Anniversary ie 50, 75 or 100 years or achieved Clubmark NI accreditation in 2022 please contact Sarah Aiken.

Emergency First Aid 

This 6 hour workshop will cover elements of First Aid applicable to anyone who is responsible for coaching/supervising a team or individuals. A 3 year certificate of competency will be issued following successful assessment.  Attendance at both sessions is compulsory.
 

Date: Wednesday 18 & 25 January 2023
Time: 6.30pm - 9.30pm
Format: Hybrid: Session 1 via zoom, Session 2 at Dromore Community Centre

This workshop is FREE to affiliated members of the ABC Sports Forum using a voucher code. For all other individuals the workshop costs £15 per person.

Changing Places Policy

We’re encouraging local residents to share their views on our draft Changing Places Policy by taking part in our public consultation.

Open until Tuesday 21 February 2023, the consultation is designed to enable local people to shape the provision of Changing Places Toilets across the borough, ensuring there are the right facilities in the right places for those that need them the most.

Forest Parks Survey

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) in partnership with local council and community partners have invested significantly in forest parks to enhance the visitor experience at these natural outdoor recreation and leisure spaces.

Planned Interventions Programme

The Planned Interventions Programme is funded by The Executive Office and delivered in partnership with the Department of Education and the Education Authority.  It is anticipated the Planned Interventions Programme 2023/2024 will open for applications in late February, subject to availability of budget. Further information will be available in the new year.

Bat & Chat

The next block of Bat & Sessions will recommence in January 2023 at Banbridge LC and South Lake LC.

Bat and Chat table tennis sessions are a fun way to learn how to play table tennis and improve your skills in a friendly and relaxed environment.  The sessions are aimed at those aged 50+.  All equipment is provided.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Banbridge Table Tennis Club and Craigavon Table Tennis Club.

Let's Dance Classes

Open to 4-8 year olds, Let's Dance classes will include elements of hip-hop, dance fitness, music-based games and will focus on flexibility, mobility and stretching. The programme will run for 8 weeks at the venues below.

Rathfriland Community Centre

  • Every Monday | 4.30pm – 5.30pm
  • 16 January – 6 March
Dromore Community Centre
  • Every Wednesday | 5pm – 6pm
  • 18 January – 8 March
Richhill Recreation Centre
  • Every Thursday | 4.00pm – 5.00pm
  • 19 January – 9 March

The cost to attend any of the above programmes is £2 per session payable at reception on the day.
