Join us at Walker Swamp next Sunday for a morning hike to end NGT's 10th Anniversary Year!
If you are receiving this email, you may have volunteered with NGT over the years, attended our 10th Anniversary event at Walker Swamp earlier this year, or maybe even donated a few years ago to help us create this magnificent wetland reserve. Whatever the reason, thank you for supporting us over the past 11 years!

To mark the close of our 10th Anniversary Year, you are invited back to Walker Swamp next Sunday morning (where our celebrations began last autumn) for a chance to see the wetland in a very different state. Despite still looking great during the autumn visit, this was the driest time of the year so the wetland had contracted and was at a lower water level at that time.
Taking a look at part of the floodplain at Walker Swamp, south of Lynchs Crossing Road, with our guests back in the autumn.
However, after a slow start to the winter season, the recent spring rains have filled the wetlands on the NGT Reserve to their highest level since permanent restoration works were completed in 2019. So we are heading into the summer with the wetland now full and bursting with life - something worth seeing for yourself, if you are available.

Before I personally take a break over Christmas / January, I thought I would invite anyone who is interested to join me for an informal hike around the southern half of the Walker Swamp Restoration Reserve. This is your chance to come along and see how our restoration works are interacting with the recent floods, and to learn about the history of the project and this part of the property.
Reverse view of the same area of floodplain shown above, six months later. Another example of 'just add water'!
Unlike our formal events held throughout the year, next Sunday morning's hike is an impromptu, non-catered affair. Just a chance to come along and spend a few hours together for a guided hike in nature, at one of my favorite places!

Where: Walker Swamp
Date: Sunday 18th December, 2022
Time: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

As this is a hike, and the ground will be uneven and a bit soggy in places, you need to be physically fit and prepared for a several km hike. Please bring your own sunscreen, insect repellent, water and snacks, and wear hiking boots and long trousers.

For those that are interested, so that we have a bit of an idea of numbers to plan the best parking spot to start the hike, we would appreciate it if you can RSVP to our Southern Grampians Community Coordinator, Lisa McIntyre - by emailing her at advancel@bigpond.com.

For those who register, we will confirm the meeting place by email on Friday 16th December.

I realise it is short notice, so for those who can't make it, I look forward to seeing you out and about in 2023 and wish you a happy and safe festive season with your family and friends.

Kind regards,

Mark Bachmann
Managing Director / Founder
