Catalyzing cohousing in Minnesota

TCCN News     -     February 2023

It's cold out, but cohousing is heating up!

New startup projects, progress in others

Panel of 6 active core groups - "What's up with cohousing in Minnesota?"

We're excited to welcome grassroots activists who are working to bring self-determined housing to Minnesota.

How and what are they doing to propel their projects forward?

We expect representatives from these core groups:
(listed alphabetically, not in order of appearance)

Cedar Cohousing
Duluth - Active Adult Cohousing for the Northland
Duluth Net Zero Cohousing Community (tentative)
New Ulm
Twin Cities Senior Cohousing
Walwood
White Bear

array of city names and the word cohousing
Cohousing is a viable piece of the housing puzzle. Learn about the different "flavors" of cohousing as you hear from each group.

Questions that one or more panelists might address:
  • How was your group formed; what's the vision?
  • How many households are you aiming for in the community?
  • How are you publicizing your group?
  • Are you able and willing to share templates for any legal documents that have been filed?
  • Have you hired any professionals - e.g., a consultant, lawyer or architect?
  • How is the group developing its inner workings?

Join us for this free program on Zoom.

"Soft launch" of the Cohousing Institute

A new program of CohousingUS (CohoUS) is called Cohousing Institute. Their use of the "Learning Relationship Management" (LRM) site is in beta form. The account-controlled access platform is offering content-rich videos as well as invitations to register for upcoming events. CohoUS is actively gathering feedback on the platform's user experience and functionality.

Here's what one thumbnail looks like on the new site.

All recorded sessions from the August 2022 national cohousing conference are posted there, as well as other content, for either pay-as-you-go (one-off paid access), or free or deeply discounted access through being a CohoUS Partner. (Keep reading, or see other newsletter items in this issue for more info.)

Save the date - Community Land Trusts | May 10

Wednesday, May 10, 2023
Greg Rosenberg will speak about cohousing and Community Land Trusts (CLTs) for our next Meet the Professional virtual event.

Rosenberg helped develop cohousing communities in Madison, WI.

Community Land Trusts help keep homes affordable for the long term. A CLT removes the property from the speculative real estate market, and regulates--but does not eliminate--gain on sale of the house for the owner when they decide to sell.

Enhanced partnership benefits in 2023 - Why it makes sense to donate for partership benefits with TCCN

Your donation of $60 or more to Twin Cities Cohousing Network will open your Partner access with CohoUS extending now through the end of 2023.

These benefits include free access to the session recordings from the national conference in 2022, as well as free or substantially discounted access to future programs.

The videos and registrations reside on the new Cohousing Institute learning-relationship management platform site, which is a program of Cohousing US.

Twin Cities Cohousing Network (TCCN) is investing in an Organizational Partnership so that we can turn around and offer you savings compared to the Individual Partner rate.
