L'ÉQUIPE-CHOC ENGLISH COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER

December 2022
Dear Readers,

The holiday season is upon us; how exciting! Soon we will be with our loved ones; it will be time for celebrating, rekindling friendships, and spending quality time with our family. We will leave 2022 behind and greet 2023 with open arms!

It is such a thrill to get ready for such a well-deserved break! Whether we are busy tying up loose ends, preparing for the end of the semester, correcting exams and punching in grades, or thinking of fitting activities and visits into our calendar, we must keep in mind that the holiday season should also include room for rest and relaxation, which is essential to our health. In order not to miss out on anything, how about trying something new? Why not block time in our Holiday agenda? Make time to relax?

There is so much to choose from: we can spend quiet time by ourselves, exercise, play games with the kids, enjoy good food, go outdoors, read a good book…What matters is that we allow ourselves the time to invest in durable rest and re-energize; we owe it to ourselves.

Whatever your choice of “me time”, we hope this holiday season will bring you much happiness, peace and love.

All our best!

FNI Book Club

Celebrating First Nations and Inuit Literature!

Would you like to have the opportunity to discover Indigenous literature and work on your students' literacy skills, but without necessarily doing all the work yourself? Then you should know that an Indigenous reading club open to all stakeholders in the FGA network will be launched after the holiday season! Proposed by Sonia Lachance, pedagogical consultant at the Mitshapeu Regional Adult Education and Vocational Training Centre, this initiative will allow us to build, over the next few years, reading cards presenting a brief summary of the book, the targeted reading level as well as ideas on how to use Indigenous literary content to develop students' literacy skills. Interested in participating?

Fill out this short form and we will send you more details by the end of January. We look forward to exploring Indigenous literature with you!

The Importance of Sleep

by Karine Martin

Everyone agrees that sleep is an essential part of a balanced life. But sleep is also a great ally of the brain when it comes to learning. While we sleep, the brain continues to be active and works to consolidate what we have learned during the day.
