FREE DATA PROTECTION AND INFORMATION COMPLIANCE TRAINING

The University has launched a new e-learning package for staff and students focusing on data protection and wider information compliance, including freedom of information. 

Provided by Deltanet, the new suite of training modules is available on Queen’s Online.

The modules provide an overview of data protection legislation and practical training in relation to keeping information secure – information that may be useful for future careers.

HAVE AN IDEA THAT BENEFITS THE QUEEN'S COMMUNITY?

STUDENT HARDSHIP FUND

Are you experiencing financial difficulty? 
The 
Student Hardship Fund is open to all students (NI, GB and international) experiencing financial difficulty during their studies and who are not eligible for the Student Support Fund.

There is no requirement to be in overdraft in order to apply.

International students who are experiencing financial difficulty are encouraged to apply.

STUDENT SUPPORT FUND

Are you experiencing financial difficulty? The University's Student Support Fund is available to support students in financial hardship during their studies. The Student Support Fund provides:

  • Financial assistance to students* from Northern Ireland and Great Britain experiencing financial hardship
  • Financial assistance for hardship caused by the exceptional circumstances as a result of COVID–19

Eligible students include: All full-time and part-time (25% of equivalent full-time course) undergraduates and postgraduate students from NI and GB. Undergraduate students must have taken out the maximum tuition fee loan and maintenance loan to which they are entitled.

There is no requirement to be in overdraft in order to apply.

ASK FOR ANGELA

Queen's have signed up to Ask Angela a safety campaign that allows people feeling unsafe on a night out to discreetly signal they need help by asking for Angela.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

PRACTICAL SAFETY TIPS

  1. SHARP OPJECTS: Please ensure cutlery is removed from sinks after use to reduce risk of injury. Ensure all sharp knives are places securely in kitchen drawers after use.
  2. SPILLAGES: Ensure all spillages are cleaned up immediately and make use of the wet floor signs provided in your kitchen, placing over the area.
  3. BREAKAGES: Broken glass or crockery should be brushed up and disposed of in the yellow sharp / hazard bin located in the kitchen. This bin is for broken glass/crockery and sharp objects only and will be emptied by house keeping staff. These objects should not be disposed of in black bins.
  4. CYCLING AT NIGHT: When cycling please make sure to wear high-vis clothing and have lights attached to your bicycle so that you are visible to traffic and other pedestrians.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS

  1. PROHIBITED ITEMS: The use of candles, tea lights and incense is strictly prohibited.
  2. STAY IN KITCHEN WHILE COOKING: Never leave pots/pans of cooking oil to heat or cooking food unattended. If you need to leave the kitchen take pans off the heat to avoid risk, and if the fire alarm sounds whilst cooking turn off cooker at the main switch removing pot/pan from the hob and evacuate immediately.
  3. KEEP A CLEAR COOKING AREA: Keep the area around your hob/cooker clear of towels, paper and anything else that can easily burn or catch fire.
  4. KEEP A CLEAN COOKING AREA: Regularly clean your cooking equipment so that there is no accumulation of food items or grease which increase flammability.
  5. USE SMALL AMOUNTS OF OIL: Hot oil can catch fire easily - use a minimal amount and be careful it does not overheat.
