If you’ve just given birth, the nutrients in your body deplete faster than usual. It’s one major reason why postnatal vitamins can be important as you heal in the weeks and months postpartum.

Health journalist Jenni Gritters is five months postpartum and experiencing many of the common postpartum symptoms—hair loss, mood swings, and dry skin. She reviewed three multivitamins (after considering a wider list and consulting a dietitian on the key ingredients for postpartum people).

She tried each pill for two mornings and looked at things like pill size, taste, texture, aftertaste, stomach pain, and ingredients. The top pick is Perelel Mom: It has the must-have nutrients (vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc) along with others (vitamins D, E, B6 and B12, and DHA and EPA omega-3s, plus folate, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, choline, iron, iodine, magnesium, selenium, copper, and chromium). Plus it was created in an FDA registered and inspected facility and third-party tested.

“It’s so close to being the vitamin that does it all,” Gritters notes. The one downside is that it’s not just one pill—each daily dose comes in a sachet with multiple vitamins.

If you don’t want to take a pill at all, Mary Ruth’s prenatal and postnatal liquid multivitamin was the best liquid option. And if you don’t want to pay $50 a month for Perelel, Nature Made has our favorite budget pick.

If, like me, you are not postpartum, you might wonder how any of this is relevant information for you. I genuinely enjoyed reading through the entire review. Just because something doesn’t actively apply to me (I’m not on the hunt for a postnatal multivitamin), doesn’t mean I can’t become more empathetic and knowledgeable about the experiences of another community. Maybe you have friends, family, or colleagues who are postpartum. Now you know a little bit more about their needs and can maybe even recommend a thoroughly reviewed product.

And if there’s a product or service you want us to consider reviewing, just hit reply!

Teapsy describes itself as “cute, funky, eco-friendly, and vegan-oriented” which is a lot to put on a tea brand but it really seems to check all the boxes. I really want to try the moondust and lava lamp flavors. (Teapsy is UK-only for now, but we’re putting this out into the universe in hopes it’ll start shipping to the US)

I genuinely enjoy the experience of coffee outside of just the perk of perking up. The taste, the ritual, it’s meditative for me. But too much caffeine gives me anxiety or makes my tummy hurt. An obvious solution: decaf coffee. Or as decaf coffee brand Velty calls it, uncaf coffee. And like most wellness beverages in the market today, it’s got some brain and gut-friendly ingredients packed in, like inulin and lion’s mane mushrooms. You can try it for yourself and get 15% off your order with the code THENESS15 (and if you do, report back!)
