Patrol Season Launch

The past weekend saw the start of the 2022-23 patrol season for many of our Surf Life Saving Clubs across the state, with lifesavers hitting the beach and raising the red and yellow flags!

Lifesavers were met with warm weather across most of the state, with beachgoers returning to our coastlines to make the most of the weekend!

Here's what our lifesavers got up to:

  • 37 Preventive Actions

  • 2,375 Total attendance at patrolled beaches

  • 3 First Aid Treatments

Remember to always swim between the flags. Visit the Beachsafe website or download the app to find your nearest patrolled beach this summer.

A big thank you to our members for an awesome start to the patrolling season, we are so excited to be back between the flags

Mandatory Child Safe Awareness Training

One of the ways we can support child safety in our organisation and communities is by equipping our members with the knowledge, skills, and awareness to keep children safe.

The SLST Board has determined that all volunteers holding a child/youth facing position are required to complete SLSA’s online Child Safe Awareness course before 31 December 2022.

This includes positions such as:

  • Officers on surf life saving club or volunteer marine rescue unit committees

  • Patrol Captains and Vice Patrol Captains

  • Junior Activity Chairs and Age Managers

  • Surf Sports Coaches and Officials

  • Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators

  • MPIOs and Complaints Managers

  • Committee members (that have YAWG representatives on them)

  • Water Safety

  • Event Management (e.g. Lifesaving Development Camp Leaders)

  • Canteen volunteers

  • First Aid personnel

The online module takes just 15-20 minutes to complete and provides a basic introduction to child safety in SLS, including the types and signs of abuse, creating a safe environment and when and how to report.

You will find the course in the SLS – Safety and Wellbeing section of the SLS Members Area

Sandy Bay Holiday Program - Schedule Released!

The Sandy Bay Holiday Program is back for another year! We can’t wait to be delivering the Surf Safety message to members of the public for the whole month of January.

Coinciding with the school holidays, the program will be run over 5 days or a single session and will be open to children aged between 7 - 14. The program will be run by our Sandy Bay Lifeguards each day. Participants will be engaged through a range of activities such as learning water safety information, dolphin diving, swimming, nipper boards, beach games and survival techniques. This program is designed for any level of swimming competence. Our staff are trained to modify the activity based on risk and ability. This is the perfect activity for your children to be active during the school holidays while learning life long skills.
