Moonstar Shoes began in 1873 when Samurais were still visible in Japan. Unsurprisingly Moonstar began as tabi shoe makers, the traditional Japanese split toe shoe with the flexible sole. Since then they have perfected their craft as world-leading experts on shoe vulcanizing. The traditional Japanese vulcanizing process known as 'ka-ryu' is carried out entirely by hand by Moonstar's master artisans who skillfully and artfully join the canvas uppers and organic rubber soles and then bake them in kilns with added sulfer to create shoes that will be as durable and stylish as the shoes our grandparents used to rock.
