Join us for worship

The scripture readings for this week are marked with a note of joyful expectation. Isaiah announces that the desert shall rejoice and blossom, and Jesus points to the unexpected and transforming signs of God’s reign. We wait with patience for the coming of the Lord, even as we rejoice at his presence among us: in word, in church, and in our homes, in silent reflection and in works of justice and love. We pray that God would open our eyes and ears to the wonders of Christ’s advent among us.

This Sunday morning, December 11, guest vocalist Tracy Hagstrom Durant will begin the worship service with a solo - - and guest pianist, Pam Bertilrud, will provide additional special music.  Kamarra Brunelle will lead worship and Shawn Brunelle will share her message, "Rejoice."  Sunday morning worship begins at 9:00 am. For those who are unable to worship with us in person, join us during our Sunday radio worship broadcast at 9:00 am on 92.5 FM Warroad.

On Wednesday, December 14, worship will include the kids' Christmas Program as well as readings and music led by the worship band.  Worship begins at 5:30 pm with refreshments to follow.

Put Good Gifts on your shopping list

There are several gift options from which to choose -- from farm animals to clean water to school supplies and more.  You may take an ornament from the Good Gifts tree in the Gathering Space at Zion to give to the recipient of your gift and/or pick up a card from the table next to the tree.  Click on this link to learn more about how Good Gifts works. or go directly to this section to shop.
Let's celebrate the return of Care Packages for College Students

The Christian Ed Committee is again sponsoring care packages for Zion college students. If you would like your students to receive packages, please turn in their names and addresses by January 5 to zlcw@mncable.net.  Soon after, there will be boxes placed in the church Gathering Space with a student’s name on each box.  Congregation members are asked to place “care package” items inside each box.  We’ll mail the packages in early February.

Each student must be a member of Zion and the name must be turned in to the church office by January 5.  Please use the information form provided below as a guide in letting us know about your student.  Donations to help cover the mailing fee are encouraged. Email zlcw@mncable.net with your student's name, full college address, name of parents, favorite treats or small items, food allergies and dislikes, or questions.
Do you have an extra?

If you have a sturdy 2-wheel cart (also known as a hand truck) you'd be willing to donate to the church, please call Keith Landin at 218-242-4284.

As a response to hearing the Good News of the Gospel through Scripture and proclamation, a worshipping congregation collects an offering.  Offerings provide funds for outreach and mission. We encourage you to support Zion’s mission by giving in any of the following ways:
  • Online at https://zlcw.org/webpay/
  • Automatic giving (Use the link above to set it up yourself or if you need help with getting set up, call the church office.)
  • Through the Vanco Mobile app. Search "Vanco Mobile" or “Vanco Mobile Faith Engagement” in the App Store or Google Play.  Once you download and open the app for the first time, search for "Zion Lutheran Church of Warroad" or "Warroad" (make sure you don't add an extra space after Warroad, or it may not find us). If you have logged into WebPay from zlcw.org or if you’ve used the retired GivePlus app, use the same username and password for Vanco Mobile.
  • Drop off your offering at worship or in the drop box outside the main entrance
  • Mail your donation to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 61, Warroad, MN 56763
In case you missed it...
Your help is needed

We are currently in the process of expanding our Child Care Task Force at Zion, as this was one of the three top priorities identified by the Practicing Resurrection team. Current members of the task force are Deb Landin and Amanda Bengtson, but we are looking to get 2-3 more members. We think that would help the project get moving and the more people we have involved, the quicker this can get started.  If you are interested or if you know of any other community members who see childcare as a growing need in the area and would like to be a part of this project, please contact Amanda at amandabengtson611@gmail.com.
A gracious offer for Pastoral care

Synod Authorized Minister (SAM) Roxanne Goulet has graciously offered to be an emergency contact for our congregation during this time when we are without a pastor.  If you are having a health crisis or would like a home or hospital visit, you can call her at 218-370-0182.
A message from Pastor Mary

Dear beloved Zion members,

Thank you for the beautiful Arabesque wind chimes. The chimes are gentle yet rich, peaceful yet joyful. I will be reminded of you every time I hear them.

Thank you, also, for your well wishes, prayers, and gracious send-off. My last day with you was perfect as we worshipped together, ate, visited, and said our farewells.

All the details of my Florida move worked out well including the sale of my house in Roseau that closed on November 18. God has led, guided, and been faithful in every aspect of this transition.

My prayers continue to be with you as you love and serve one another and live out God's mission.

With gratefulness and love,
Pastor Mary Gilthvedt
A fine time was had by all at the Advent Event
Julie Jones

The poinsettias in front of the church and two peace lilies are placed by the Women of Zion to celebrate the Advent season.

Special thanks to the Esther Work Group for decorating the Fellowship Hall for the Women of Zion’s Advent Event and for serving coffee and dessert.  Christmas gifts were exchanged and Christmas carols were sung, accompanied by Heather Hahn. Several door prizes were enjoyed by the lucky recipients.  Joyce Strand and Judy Landin served as ushers and greeters for the event.
