Let the holiday countdown begin

Lo, in came December and along with it, the perennial season of advent calendars. Unlike those of our childhoods — where daily drops of cardboard-infused chocolate lay behind charmless, perforated doors — now even the most Grinch-ish among us can find a bespoke, meticulously curated calendar of whatever grown-up pleasure strikes their fancy: One can find a December's worth of Alberta craft beer, gourmet cheese, crystals and gemstones, short stories, dog treats, even socks — all inspiringly packaged, too.

With the deep freeze and dark hours setting in early, it's important to give yourself a wee treat each day. Pair with APN's playlist of new episodes, and you'll have more than a daily dose of goodness for the whole week.

This week's playlist is ready for your podcatcher queue. You can find out more about this week's episodes on the APN blog

  • In a bittersweet episode of Repodcasting, the gals celebrate the five-year anniversary of the show as Janet bids farewell to the co-host chair — meanwhile, they recast the 2021 Netflix holiday jaunt, A Castle for Christmas. Never fear, fans, Lucia will continue with a cast of guest co-hosts in 2023.
  • In more tough news, Loyal Company of the River Valley discusses the Canadian Premier League's decision to take FC Edmonton off life support, and also examines the first-round losses of the Canadian men's team at the FIFA World Cup.
  • This month's Podcast Brunch Club theme delves into the fascinating and sometimes terrifying world of Cults. Tune in to the global PBC conversation, or sign up for updates on gatherings with the Calgary chapter, hosted by APN's own Kyle Marshall of Putting It Together and Kyle and Dave vs The Machine
