Rise & Shine - Rock & Roll This Sunday

The Rock and Roll Marathon will pass by our church doors this Sunday, December 4th. Let's be there to cheer them on!

Before COVID, it was tradition to gather together and cheer on the marathon runners and give them them toilet paper to wipe their runny noses. This Sunday we will gather at 7am (leave plenty of time for traffic, road closures, and parking) in front of the church; runners will begin passing shortly thereafter. If you come early to church, please park in the Travis Garage, not the St. Mary’s garage, enter on Pecan Street, and be prepared to pay to park.

Streets and parking lots will be open following the marathon in time for church!

Shirley Watkins is the contact for this event. Dress warm, bring a cowbell if you have one, and get ready to cheer! This is so much more fun with friends!

This time is for those that would like to meet with Pastor Cynthia and learn more about Travis Park Church membership and what it means to be a Reconciling United Methodist. Bring your food, coffee and questions to the church office conference room right after worship. All are welcome.

The next opportunity to become a member of Travis Park Church is Sunday, January 29th. We will have one more Next Steps Coffee before then on New Years Day!

Back Together Next Thursday

United with Faith (UWF) - formerly known as United Methodist Women (UMW) and Women of Wisdom (WOW) - is meeting up Next Thursday to discuss the exciting new future of the group! This is a GREAT time for new people to attend!

We'd like to get our group back together again--in person or via Zoom. We're going to have our first meeting Thursday, December 8 from 7:00-8:00pm at the home of Mary Jo Villalobos.

Our connection is to a larger organization (United Women in Faith). As it fosters spiritual growth and develops leaders, United Women in Faith seeks to improve the lives of women, children and youth in the United States and internationally. We also serve in the Corazon Kitchen every 5th Sunday!

The Travis Park Church group fully supports all who wish to be a part...all genders are welcome! We are calling our group United WITH Faith instead of United Women in Faith.

Please join the group on Realm to learn more! You can also email Mary Jo Villalobos or Shirley Watkins to get connected!

Community News & Events

Congratulations to Rachel Jennings!

Rachel Jennings has been named as a TCADP Annual Conference Appreciation Awards Recipient for 2023! Carpools are already forming to go to Austin to support Rachel and represent the San Antonio abolitionist community at the TCADP Annual Conference next February.

The Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (TCADP) Appreciation Awards are bestowed upon individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions towards efforts to end the death penalty in Texas. Rachel Jennings is a stalwart TCADP member in San Antonio. A constant presence at vigils on the days of executions in Texas, even during the pandemic, Rachel is a dedicated participant in the activities of TCADP both locally and virtually. She also has given presentations on the death penalty to her church and to college students and published poems on the issue. Rachel teaches English at San Antonio College in San Antonio and serves on the board of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center.

Did you know? While it isn't an official ministry of Travis Park Church, we have several members who actively participate in TCADP. You can join this informal group on Realm Connect.
