A Joyous Holiday Season 🎁 |
December 2022 |
"Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give." — Eleanor Roosevelt |
'Tis the season for giving. Yes, it is the holiday season, and with it comes to do lists, gift lists, and holiday card lists running through our minds and keeping us busy. At the same time, it can be hectic and stressful, but the joy of gathering with loved ones and giving remains at the heart of this special time of the year. |
| |
The delight in finding the perfect gift for a loved one or the reward of making a gift to a cause that matters is never lost on me. These are the things that spark joy for me each holiday season. In that spirit of giving, I hope you will consider making a gift to a cause that matters to you and your family. Let the gift of giving spark joy for you. |

Community Grant Cycles |
The Community Foundation is committed to being a responsive partner to non-profit organizations serving Lorain County. Over the last four years, our Board and staff have followed the direction of our strategic plan and evaluated our impact and current grantmaking process. Part of this process has been gathering feedback from our community partners, grantees, donors, and volunteers on our Grants Committees. |
Given the direction of our plan and feedback received, we have decided to add a Community Grant Cycle and pivot our Community Grant Cycles to center around our four focus areas: Health & Human Services, Education & Youth Development, Arts & Culture, and Strengthening Lorain County. |
This change will allow our staff and Grants Committee to focus on the challenges facing each focus area and increase the number of people serving on the Grants Committees. |

Power of Giving |

Honoring Those Who Touch Our Lives |
As we celebrate the holidays and reflect on the year, we often think about what we are grateful for, and that may include others outside of family, who have touched our lives. Mentors play a pivotal role in many of our lives, and come in many forms, including employers, teachers, friends, family, collaborators, or anyone who challenges and encourages. |

Nearly 15 years ago, I was recruited to the American Endowment Foundation and began my career in charitable giving. In my first years and to his retirement, the CEO, Phil Tobin, was a fantastic mentor. He radiated a passion for philanthropy and had loads of experience to share. A lot of what I know, I learned because of him. |
