We are welcoming 2023 with the intention of
deep community and connection.

Relationships are the heart of this network and we greatly look forward to reconnecting this year on a deeper level. It is no secret that the past years have been a challenge - each individual, ecovillage, and network that make up the Global Ecovillage Network have faced their own unique hurdles. We invite you while reading this, to release any tension that that fact invokes. We invite you to put your hand on your heart and feel the swell of hope that a collective network working towards positive change holds. We look forward to facing the dawn of the new year together, in community, in compassion, and in co-creation.

🕸️ Weaving humanity back into the web of life: Kincentric leadership through the polycrisis

This two-year pilot project will lay the foundation for a new paradigm of leadership, and polycrisis mitigation, grounded in kincentric ecology - an awareness that life in any environment is only viable when humans view the life surrounding them as kin.

In partnership with St. Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation & Peace, and BIPOC Youth Justice & Healing Fellowship, we look forward to;
  1. Supporting leaders, organisations and communities responding to the polycrisis to integrate a kincentric view of life into their activities

  2. Creating tools and frameworks for designing and implementing interventions that benefit all forms of life.

  3. Organising multiple retreats, mentoring, an online community of practice, and a library of stories providing many different ways to engage and learn in the coming two years.

🌱 Youth in Action: Sprouts for the Future Project

Launching April 2023, students from Ecuador, India, Montenegro, South Africa, and the USA will create hands-on project-based learning for young people in the themes of renewable energy/transport, natural building, water and or waste management, organic agriculture, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration.

Through this project, we aim to;
  1. Create transformative learning and ecological skill-building for educators

  2. Implement the following SDGs 2, 6, 7, 13, 15 & 17

  3. Enhance educator's networks, providing resources that allow others to replicate the developed hands-on projects

🔎 Ecovillage Resilience +2.5°

We are excited to continue the Ecovillage Resilience +2.5° project asking the question, "What can ecovillages nurture today to be more resilient tomorrow?" Together with 20 communities from around the world, we will continue exploring resilience, adaptation, and transformation in a > +2.5 degrees global warming scenario through the four-strand pathway;
  1. A resilience assessment of ecovillages and key ecovillage practices

  2. A deep-dive into the reality of a 2.5+ degree hothouse Earth

  3. Visions and pathways for ecovillages in 2040

  4. Creation of 'Ecovillages 2040' capacity building and dissemination resources
