Commander's Emphasis Items

  • Winter Storm: Thank you to those who have reported ready for SDWG possible winner storm tasking. We are not aware of any yet, and of course, safety would be a key consideration. We remain in contact with the EOC.
  • Awards season is here:  Enter your award nominations in eServices. Go to Personnel and Award Recommendation.  The better the write-up you submit, the better the chances of the award being approved. Deadline is January 15.
  • Updating the SAREX training Concept of Operations (ConOps): We plan to do fewer intro-level task signoffs on Saturday SAREXs and exercise higher levels of proficiency. Squadron commanders and wing staff were briefed during a recent teams meeting about upcoming changes in the way we will do our OPs/ES training.
  • Possible Redfield Squadron: We had to postpone our Dec 9 in Redfield about a possible school-based cadet squadron due to weather. Looking to reschedule soon.
Important Updates
  • SAREX January 14 Eventbrite signup.
  • N832CP is back home in SDWG. Justin Johnson and Kurt Johnson flew the swap on Sunday Dec 11. It had been on loan to Kansas Wing for use in their glider program.

  • State MOU: The revised Memorandum of Understanding between SDWG and the state of South Dakota is at National HQ for approval.
  • Lt Col Leo Becht. Long-time SDWG pilot and wing staff member Leo Becht died December 16 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at the age of 84. Leo had been one of SDWG's most proficient and active pilots while employed by East River Electric in Madison and after his retirement in Spearfish. A funeral service is planned for June in Webster, SD.

  • Space Force Cadet Corps (SFCC). Have you heard anything from this organization? They are not affiliated with CAP, the US Space Force, or the US Air Force. Use caution in any contact you have with them.
Congratulations
