NC Iowa Agronomy Connection Newsletter

December 5, 2022 | Vol. 9, Issue 15

Events

This entire newsletter is devoted to winter meetings. I ask that when required, you please preregister in advance. This helps us to process paperwork for your pesticide meetings and also to plan for food for those events that include lunch. All in all, it just helps us to more quickly serve you at these meetings. Thank you!  The ISUEO Crops Team has a great slate of programs scheduled for this winter and I hope you will join us at events this winter!

Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses (P-CIC) will start in December. Here is a link to my meetings.  Be sure to follow all instructions in the brochure you received as many counties require preregistration to attend your P-CIC.  Registration in advance helps us to complete your paperwork and will reduce delays upon arrival.

December 9.   Worth and Cerro Gordo Corn and Soybean Clinic will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church at 503 S. East St. in Manly from 9:30 to 1:30. This crop clinic will feature Dr. Alison Robertson discussing tar spot in 2022,  Dr. Prashant Jha talking about weed control strategies, I will be conducting the private pesticide applicator training and our master of ceremonies, Dennis Johnson will be leading us through the day. The crop clinic is free to attend, but you are asked to please pre-register by calling the Worth County Extension Office at 641-324-1531. There is a fee for those who need their private pesticide applicator continuing education. CCA credits are also available!

December 13.  An Introductory RUSLE2 and Iowa P-Index workshop will be offered in Altoona. This course teaches you how to use the two required software programs that are used in manure and nutrient management planning in Iowa.  Please visit link for registration information and computer requirements.

December 13 and 14. Registration is now open for the Agricultural Chemical Dealer Updates.  These two meetings offer CCA credits, commercial pesticide applicator continuing instruction credit (for 2022) and provide a great way to keep up to date on the latest research as we head into the 2023 growing season. Interactive demos and hands-on learning will keep you engaged! Click here to directly access registration information.

The program will feature:

  • Cropping season review
  • New P and K research for changes to current guidelines; plus don't forget the lime!
  • Throwing the kitchen sink at soybean gall midge

CropsTV Season 3.  This online education program provides the convenience of viewing at home, office or anywhere there’s an internet connection. Watch on your schedule, where and when convenient. Each program includes links to additional resources and publications to add to the educational experience. Registration will open in early December and episodes will be available for viewing after the New Year through mid-March. PlanterU is back for 2023!

This will be a company-neutral (not focused on one particular equipment brand) learning opportunity to help you continue to better understand and optimize your planting setup. The focus won't be on telling you what settings you should be running, but rather the theory behind planting equipment and new planting technology allowing you to evaluate and identify the right setting for you, your seed, your field, and your equipment setup.

  • Class size will be limited to allow for hands-on demonstrations and registration will close when a location reaches capacity. Early registration is encouraged! This entire series sold out last year in a manner of weeks!

  • Cost is $85, which includes refreshments and lunch, reference materials, seed depth tool, and closing wheel hold up bracket.

For more information, including the program agenda, dates/locations, and to register go to: http://www.aep.iastate.edu/planter.
