This Week at St. Anthony Parish

December 4, 2022  I  The 2nd Sunday of Advent

"I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand. He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." (Mt. 3:11-12)

Read today's gospel.

St. Anthony community, we have a giveaway to announce! Would you like to snag a Great Adventure Bible for yourself, or perhaps for someone else as a Christmas gift?

Here's how you can win a copy:
1) Find us on Facebook (STASouthBend) or Instagram (stanthonysb) (and give us a follow if you'd like!)

2) Drop us a comment on our "SGO & Great Adventure Bible Giveaway" post (on either Facebook or Instagram), tagging 3 friends, and your name will be entered into a drawing to win a new copy of the Great Adventure Bible. There will be one winner! You will have until next Wednesday, December 7 to leave us your comment.

The winner will be announced next Friday, December 9!

Consider an SGO Donation & Spread the Word

Please consider tagging your friends in the post and spreading the word about SGO scholarships. This year, St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School needs approximately $12,000 dollars to provide 16 students with the funds they need to afford their first year at our school. Those who help gift a new student with an SGO scholarship can make it possible for that child to attend St. Anthony for the next several years through to graduation. You can even elect to route your donation directly to St. Anthony. Just visit SGONEI.com to donate. Please prayerfully consider helping to provide a Catholic education for a child!

Donors to the SGO are eligible for a 50% Indiana state tax credit in return for their contribution. To take advantage of the state tax credit for 2022, be sure to make your donation by December 16, 2022!

2nd Week of Advent: St. Joseph's Love

Looking for ways to prayerfully enter into each week of Advent? Find some time to pause and be lead by Sr. Miriam James Heidland through an Advent meditation on Saint Joseph and the heroic and excellent love he had for the Holy Family.

Saint Nicholas Breakfast Tomorrow!

Join us after both Sunday Masses tomorrow, December 4 for our annual Saint Nicholas Breakfast! A pancake breakfast will be served in De Padua Hall over in the gym. We hear there may even be a special visit from Saint Nicholas himself, as well as a beautiful Saint Nicholas story for the kids to hear!

In Lieu of December's Donut Sunday

The Saint Nicholas Breakfast will be held in lieu of December's Donut Sunday. Not to worry though, because the Saint Nicholas breakfast is always delicious!

Church Renovation Response Data

Hello St. Anthony community. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts on the church renovation with us. We analyzed the data and developed a table which captures key insights based on your responses. In addition to this prioritized order of importance, we also received suggestions (each mentioned at least twice) to renovate the choir loft, baptistry, East entrance accessibility, outdoor spaces (e.g., parking lot, landscaping, etc.) and pews/kneelers. The next step in this process will involve consulting with Fr. Arthur, the architect, the renovation committee, the parish council and the finance council to put a plan together that balances this feedback with Fr. Arthur's priorities and our ability to fund improvements. Thank you for your patience thus far, and we look forward to sharing further developments.

Finally, please feel free to send any questions or comments you may have to the Parish Council, at parishcouncil@stasb.org. Thank you!

Immaculate Conception Mass Times

Mass times on Thursday, December 8 for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception will be at 8:15am and 5:30pm. This is a holy day of obligation. After the 5:30pm Mass, stick around for the Advent Reconciliation Service from 6:15-7:30pm.

The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and multiple priests will be present to hear confessions. Take advantage of this opportunity for reconciliation as we await the Lord's birth at Christmas.

Pick Up Your Directory This Weekend

After all Masses this weekend, stop by the tables near the southeast entrance of the church to pick up your copy of the directory. If you came and sat for a photo or submitted your own, we have a copy (with your name labeled on the inside) waiting for you. Just jump in the appropriate line which corresponds to the first letter of your last name, and someone will be there to assist in finding your copy.

There will be four lines:
  • A-C, D-H, J-R, & S-Z.
Extra copies will be freely available once everyone who had their photo taken or submitted a photo has received their copy.

A Few Last Things

Bishop's Appeal Donations Still Welcome

If you have yet to give, please consider doing so. Any funds we raise beyond the parish goal will help fund new signage on the corner of Ironwood & Jefferson and next to the school gym.

If you’d like to donate or pledge online, visit the Bishop's Appeal website. Thank you for your generosity!
