Be like the Shepherds: Invite someone to celebrate Christmas!

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10  But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. 12  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." 13  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14  "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." 15  When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." 16  So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17  When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18  and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
Luke 2:8-18 (NIV)

No one told the shepherds to “spread the word” about what happened that first Christmas night  in “Little Town of Bethlehem.” They couldn’t keep what they had “heard and seen” a secret. Little did they know that all of history would finds it true meaning, purpose and hope from the birth, death and resurrection of the babe born in the manger that night. While their Christmas night was unique for the shepherds, the urgency to share the message is just as important today. Jesus is still the only world’s Savior and hope, which means that the job started by shepherds the first Christmas night isn’t finished until the whole world hears.

Who should you invite?  Family who weren't planning to go to church on Christmas.  Neighbors, next door or down the street, who know you and you know they stay home on Sundays, while you go to church.  Invite the coworker with whom you spend five days a week with already, only this time invite them to a life-changing opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas.

Here’s the old-fashioned way. For the next two Sundays pick up an invitation or 10.  Take as many as you will pass out.  Before you invite, pray. After you pray, don't delay.  Hand it to them in person, walk it next door, or drop it in the mail. Get at it today.

May the LORD bless your inviting efforts in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Faith's Food Pantry

Thank you, Faith Church and School families! Because of everyone's donations, we delivered 165 Thanksgiving bags to Brumby on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving week. A Special SHOUTOUT to the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Faith who helped not only bag all the bags in plastic due to the rain, but also helped us load all the vehicles. It was all done in 15 minutes. Absolutely amazing!

Thanks to everyone for your support of the pantry. The weekly community distribution at Brumby has climbed to over 200 families weekly with fewer when school is not session. Our next delivery will be December 20th. We are trying to make really heavy bags because there will not be another food distribution until January 2nd and the kids are out of school for two weeks.  If you can help deliver on December 20th, please see Sybil Eidson, Jan Anderson or Mitzi Lewis.
