CUOSC Column - December 1 2022

New CUOSC chair Matt Spooner has issued a rallying call to fans: “Come and join us.”

Spooner, who was elected to the role at last week’s board meeting said: “This is an exciting time for CUOSC.

“We have some projects already on the go that look to develop CUOSC over the coming months and I’m looking forward to seeing where we can go.

“If you are not already a member, now would be a good time to join.”

CUOSC own a 25.4% shareholding in the Blues, have two representatives on United’s boards and can be an important voice for fans. The more members we have the louder we can speak.

Spooner added: “I don’t doubt the importance of our shareholding and know other fans' trusts are envious of this.

“We currently have around 600 members and we would love to push that towards the 1000 mark. The more fans who sign up the better we can support the club.”

Spooner took over as chair from Frank Beattie, who has stood down for personal reasons. Dan Maclennan was appointed vice-chair.

Billy Atkinson remains the board’s representative on the club’s Holding Board and Nigel Davidson continues on United’s 1921 operational board.

It costs £10 for an adult to join CUOSC for one year and £5 for seniors and under 18s. You can join via our website at www.cuosc.org.uk or by talking to our reps in the Fanzone or under the East Stand on matchdays.

There will also be the opportunity to join at our next members' meeting which will be held in Foxy’s at Brunton Park on Thursday, December 8 (7pm). The meeting offers a chance to question CUOSC directors. Online access will also be available.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Blues’ big Christmas raffle. CUOSC have put up matchday hospitality for 10 people in Foxy’s – a package worth £500 – and there are lots of other great prizes on offer. You can find a list on our website.

The raffle has been organised by Carlisle United Supporter Groups (CUSG) and proceeds will go towards fan related projects. Tickets cost £1 and the draw will take place on Wednesday, December 28.

Watch out for representatives, and others, selling tickets before Saturday’s home match with Sutton. Remember the kick off has been brought forward to 1pm.

CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES ON THE CUFC BOARDS

To contact Billy Atkinson or Nigel Davidson, your representatives on the CUFC Holdings and CUFC 1921 boards respectively, please drop an email via info@cuosc.org.uk - you can raise any issue with them. Some things may not be relevant at board meeting level but both our reps have regular contact with various people at the football club and your issue will be raised with the appropriate personnel, should it require an answer from the club. As attendees at meetings of Carlisle United Supporters Groups we also have the opportunity to raise concerns, queries and issues in that forum as well. If Nigel isn't available, we will pass on your query to his deputy, Carol Wilson.
