Dear Parents,

• Please join us for our 7/8th Grade Dine-Out fundraiser at the 6 Corners Culvers 4939 Irving Pk. from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Please bring your flyer or this letter on your cell phone.
  
  
   
• The application period for GoCPS has been extended. Please make sure to apply for your younger children if you have not done so already. The application process will close on  December 8th. We have had over 1300 applications so far, so we want to make sure that you are not left out out of our attendance lottery. (Applications are only necessary for NEW students, current students do not need to reapply.)

• Please check-in with Security Desk by the East Doors and then stop by our Lost and Found Area when you pick up your children from school, or during The Thorp Winterfest.  We have hundreds of hats, gloves, shoes, coats, lunchboxes and water bottles.  All items that are not picked up by the Holiday break will be donated to charity.
   

• In order to keep the lunch lines running smoothly, your child needs to bring their School ID with them to the lunchroom.  Please make sure students are bringing their IDs with them every day.  Lost IDs can be ordered in the office for $5.  

• At school we often have unexpected bathroom accidents so if you have any Thorpwear and especially sweatpants that your children may have outgrown - please don't throw them out. We would be happy to put them to good use!  Please feel free to drop off you items at the security desk.
   
• We need your help for morning drop-off. With the colder weather we are seeing some inconsistencies with our student volunteers. If you have time and can help us, please reach out to thorpadmin@cps.edu and we will get back to you. We are looking for help in the auditorium, our lunchroom, corners of Grace and Meade, and Warwick and Austin. If you can help please let us know.
• Families, please send your children to school with their winter coats and warm outerwear!  We are outside for recess any day when the temperature is 20 degrees or above.

Have you noticed our new website design? There are some areas that are working very well - the calendar, the virtual office, etc. But there are other sections that aren't working yet (like our Thorp Shop). We appreciate your patience as we work through our website transition.

Each week, we will be highlighting different teachers. This week we would like to showcase our third grade teacher Mrs. Powers.

Hi! My name is Ann Powers and this is my tenth year teaching at O.A.Thorp! I received my B.A. in English and M.A. in Secondary Education: Language Arts from Northeastern University! I am a born and raised Chicagoan. I am extremely proud to be from this beautiful city and happy to see that pride in Thorp students as well. My husband and I have a very inquisitive eight year old daughter and an equally curious four year old daughter. In my free time I love spending time with my family, listening to podcasts, reading and exploring different parts of the city. “There are many problems, but I think there is a solution to all these problems; it’s just one, and it’s education.” – Malala Yousafzai
