OAS Council will analyze challenges and opportunities of the Future of Work on December 13th
|
|
The Inter-American Council for Integral Development will hold a meeting on Tuesday, December 13th, to discuss the topic “The transformation of the world of work in the digital economy: policy imperatives”. The session, which will have introductory presentations by ILO, OAS, workers, employers and government, will analyze the policymaking challenges and opportunities posed by the future of work, such as digital transformation, green transition, and demographical changes, to employment and labor relations. Recommendations to include a gender approach in labor inspection:
The final document of the 5th Gender Dialogue is ready
|
|
The Ministries of Labor now have a useful tool to plan and define policies to build a gender-responsive labor inspection: after being reviewed and commented by the participants, the final version of the resulting document of the 5th Gender Dialogue among Ministries of Labor: “Towards a gender-responsive labor inspection” is ready. To intensify the sensibilization and training of inspectors and other key stakeholders, work in collaboration with mechanisms for the advancement of women, review and improve statistics and data collection, having a systemic approach and having gender focal points within the labor inspection and other areas within the Ministry, are among the recommendations included in the document. Mark all the 2023 events for RIAL/IACML in your calendar

2022 comes to an end and, with it, the planning of 2023 begins. Like 2022, next year will have great learning and collaboration opportunities within the RIAL/OAS, including technical workshops, meetings of Working Groups, and bilateral cooperation activities to continue strengthening labor administrations in the Americas. To facilitate planning within your organizations, we share again the Work Plan 2022-2024 of the IACML with all the activities for 2023.

Registration open for course on the role of businesses in advancing the rights of childhood and adolescence
|
|
Registrations for a course on the role of businesses in the rights of childhood and adolescence are open until February 3, 2023. This course, 100% free and online, is provided by the UPPI Network of Chile in partnership with Arcor Foundation, and has been certified by ILO and UNESCO, and is aimed at professionals within public and private companies, who are interested in promoting actions in favor of childhood within their organizations. Interested candidates must have the support of the company/organization that they belong to and can present their candidacy in the UPPI webpage. The course is only available in Spanish. .

COP 27: The world needs more training for a fair transition
|
|
The 27th Conference on Climate Change, held from November 6 – 20, concluded with important agreements in all fronts on the fight against this phenomenon. Capacity and skills building was no exception. The Sharm el-Sheikh Implementation Plan recognized the existence of skills gap for the green economy, specially in countries of less relative development, and therefore, included a call for developed countries to increase support for long-term capacity building. Also, it emphasizes the importance of social dialogue and knowledge exchange for developing equitable and sustainable solutions, and of including the different sectors of national territories

ILO launches Global Wage Report
|
|
On November 30th, the International Labor Organization (ILO) launched its “Global Wage Report”, which evaluates and analyzes the evolution of remunerations internationally and by region. This year, the report highlights the effect of inflation in wages, and notes that in 2020, in Latin America and the Caribbean, the increase of real wages was 3.3%, while in 2021 and 2022 it was -1.4% and -1.7%, respectively.
