Students Return 1/9/23

Happy Friday Soaring Heights Families,

We are into the final stretch of the semester with the Winter Break beginning December 23rd and running through January 6th. As the semester comes to a close please encourage your children to finish strong, and turn in any missing assignments or complete any assessments that are overdue. The new semester will start January 9, 2023 when we return from break. This is a great opportunity to refocus and set new goals.

Congratulations to the Robotics Team for earning an Excellence Award at last weekends tournament. They will be competing again this upcoming weekend. We look forward to celebrating their continued success.

We would also like to recognize our Chess Club with over 30 participants this year. Thank you to Mr. Hattendorf for sponsoring and facilitating this club and providing the opportunity for our students to enjoy and learn the game of chess.

We were thrilled to have the Erie High School Choir and Erie High Orchestra come over to Soaring Heights to work with our middle school students.  What an awesome opportunity to get to see these incredible high school students perform for our students and inspire them to participate in music programs.

The Girls basketball team is having a great year with 68 girls participating. We’re very excited about the number of students that participate in all of our extra-curricular activities. Research shows that students who participate in extra-curricular and/or co-curricular activities enjoy school more and are more successful academically and socially.

We have just completed iReady Reading and will begin iReady Math next week. These assessments are critical for assessing student growth and providing data to our teachers that drives their instruction. Thank you to all parents/guardians for making sure your children are well rested and ready to do their best on these assessments.

A huge shout out to our PTO for providing a Potato Bar for the staff this week. Our PTO continues to support our school and staff in so many ways! Thank you! Thank You!

Again let’s finish December strong! As always, attendance matters, every day is an important day to be in school.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We are extremely grateful for our students, staff, parents and Erie community.

Best wishes,

Cyrus Weinberger, Principal
Meghan Quirk, Assistant Principal
Krystal Trinkler, Dean
Rick Olsen, Dean

Let's wrap up the fall season with a seasonal drawing of
pumpkins on a vine, a patterned bat, and colorful scarecrows
in a cornfield. Get ready for winter as we turn out holiday
lights, a "sweet" drawing of a gingerbread house (almost
good enough to eat!) and a wonderful winter scene. We'll
draw these (and many more exciting lessons!) while we
improve creative and critical thinking skills today's students need.

UNIVERSAL FREE MEALS HAVE EXPIRED FOR THE 22/23 SCHOOL YEAR. Upon the start of the school year, students will be charged for lunch unless they qualify for free or reduced-price meals. We are encouraging families to apply for meal benefits for the 2022–2023 school year  to ensure negative balances do not accrue on students’ accounts.

Applying online is the fastest way to get your application processed to ensure no lapse in coverage happens. Applying online also reduces the chance for errors and the need to send applications back to families to correct.

If you do not believe you qualify for free or reduced-price meals, please make sure that there is money on your students’ accounts. You can add money to their account through MySchoolBucks

For more information, please visit the Nutrition Serivces website.
