Welcome to the Some Things newsletter curated by designer & artist Ngaio Parr

It's the Friday afternoon of the calendar year and I have some appropriately low-lift recommendations for you. This is final edition of Some Things for the year — I'll be back with more nonsense in 2023 and (maybe) some changes to the program.

I hope you have a break (!) filled with equal parts joy and relaxation — thanks for being a believer in some things.

READ

What explains the gap between how we use our time and how we want to use our time? Also: who gets quality leisure?

How the slow cooker changed the world: cooking all day while the cook was away.

Childlore — where typing 8-0-0-8-5 on a calculator is not just naughty and fun, but important.

How did we get so obsessed with streaks? I realised they might be a problem when I meditated for 450 days in a row then broke my streak and didn't meditate ever again.

LOOK & LISTEN

I didn't think I'd be recommending a documentary about Jonah Hill and his therapist but it is very sweet and moving and it makes me want to find an ideal therapist that doesn't just listen, but advises. (Any recommendations for LA or remote therapists that you love?!)

You want to listen to Christmas music, but you also want to be sad? I got you.

This album is making a resurgence in my heart this week.

My new favourite passtime. Also: party games. Or, my favourite very self-explanatory game with new folks — what's your Mum's name?

EAT & BUY

I felt the need to "test out" some Martha Stoumen wines for gifting to clients and friends, and this Trailblazer gift bundle did not last long in our house. Independent! Women Owned! And very importantly — delightfully pretty labels.

In love with these cabbage dumplings rolls combine everything delicious and are GF!

Spiced Sugar Plums!

Gluten-free baking books always seem too complicated for me — this one is simple and has a huge variety of recipes that I can't wait to make over the break.

I find myself avoiding wearing puffer jackets because they don't make me feel good, and often don't go with the rest of my wardrobe. I purchased this long liner jacket recently and it is the perfect alternative that keeps you warm and if big enough to go over any outfit, but isn't too bulky — I find myself wearing it every single day.

A niche recommendation I'm sure, but I've purchased a couple of things from Gooby who specialise in harnesses and jumpers for small dogs — and they fit my lil Boston Terrier Iggy Pup so much better than any other brand.

Thanks for reading! This newsletter is free, but if you’re feeling generous you can support my work by forwarding it to a friend, ordering The Grief Companionbuying me a coffee, or referring me for a project. I'm taking on new clients and collaborating with studios and brands near and far — maybe that could be you?
