Taste the World

Through a Lens Made of Honey

It’s a very sweet season for the Honey and Pollination Center as we plan for the year ahead. Responding to requests made over the past few years, the Center will hold a 3-part Honey Sensory Experience, starting with the sweet terroir of California, and on to North America and the World!

This three-part tasting program will introduce participants to both the world of honey sensory science as well as a unique and educational tasting experience. The monthly program begins February 8 and will be held in person for each one-and-a-half-hour session in the Sensory Theater at UC Davis. Each session can be purchased independently or the VIBee Premium Pass that includes all three sessions and a special gift valued at $25.

California: February 8, 5:30 – 7 pm
California, home to a diverse number of honeys in addition to being the Center’s home base, is the perfect place to start our exploration. Our discussion will take us through three or four unique varietal honeys and then on to pairing each with a selection of cheeses, also from California.

United States: March 22, 5:30 – 7 pm
Explore regional honey favorites from Florida Tupelo to Appalachian Sourwood and north to Fireweed from the Cascades. Every section of our country has a unique and wonderful honey they call their own. This session will also introduce you to Mead, the alcoholic beverage made from honey which reflects these diverse honeys.

The World: April 25, 5:30 – 7 pm

Travel the world through your taste buds! Many countries boast of their unique varietals, often rare and expensive! This international experience will introduce you to honey produced by the Melipona bee. This little pollinator has an unusual hive with unusual honey. Ours will be coming from Brazil, a gift from one of the California Master Beekeeper Students who lives part of the year in Brazil and collects Melipona honey.

Your Free Gift
Purchase all three sessions and receive a sampler set of UC Davis honey ($25 value) This gift is only available if you choose the VIBee Pass.
