A Message from Fr. George

Gaudete!

Rejoice! There is a silver lining on everything.

Hope, Joy, and Peace are the most important words we hear during this season of advent.  There may be pain in waiting, or the anxiety of the uncertain, but God has given His perfect plan, which unfolds before us.

We must be busy with all our Christmas events and plans, I pray with you that we may be able to still pause and take some time to pray and reflect upon our blessings. Truly, Christmas is coming! Let us awaken our hearts to see the arrival of the Lord in our lives.

In journey with you,

Fr George

Parish Updates
Monday, December 12th is our Regional Advent Penance Service.  The service begins at 7:00 PM.

Area priests will converge on the area to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation as we move towards Christmastide.
Corporal Works of Mercy
(In Lego)
Our upper elementary students are pleased to present the Corporal Works of Mercy in Lego Form.  Three of the works have been combined to one excellent soup kitchen.  (My personal favorite touch?  The Altar Servers in "Bury the Dead" - that's attention to detail!  ~Andrew)

As the USCCB Says:
The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise.  They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs" (USCCA).  They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are:
  • Feed the hungry
  • Give drink to the thirsty
  • Clothe the naked (Sometimes also seen as "Give Alms to the Poor")
  • Visit the imprisoned
  • Shelter the homeless
  • Visit the sick
  • Bury the dead

We are bringing back the annual Christmas Play also known formerly as the Epiphany Play. This year, it is known as “The Holy Family Play” because it will be celebrated at the Feast of the Holy Family on 1 Jan!

If you have a child in elementary or preschool that is interested in participating in the play this year, please send me an email at margie@stjeromennva.org. I am in need of:
  • Mary and Joseph
  • Donkey, Camel and Rooster
  • Star
  • Shepherds and sheep
  • Angels and Gabriel
  • Magi
  • Narrators
The only ones who speak are the narrators and the biggest part is that of the Holy Family. Our rehearsals will be 18 December at 10am (following the 9am Mass) and on 29 December at 10am (unless there are many that work that day and then we will switch to an evening practice.) The narrators and Holy Family will have one additional practice which will be decided later.

Please let me know if your child(ren) are interested and what part they would like. I try to keep the Holy Family and the Narrators filled by the older elementary children due to the role they play.

Thanks so much!
God bless,
Margie
Did you know...?

Once a month (on the first Thursday) we hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  It begins after the daily Mass and lasts through 7:00 PM.  Most months from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM we have an hour of Children's Adoration for families to come and spend time with Jesus.

You can sign up here!  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050E4EADAE2AA75-stjerome

Your job would be to staff the table in the commons, check to make sure gifts are appropriately packaged (some are wrapped, some are not), labeled, and then make sure they are sorted to their right location!
