Monday Morning News.

December 12, 2022
Greetings Friends,
The winter season leads many people to break out the skis, snowboards, and other snow sport equipment. Depending on your level of danger, you may be hitting the slopes in order to "catch air." It's a funny expression since you cannot actually catch or hold the air, but it encapsulates the idea of being in the air, even if only for a brief moment.
The Advent season has its own feeling of 'catching air' in which we are caught up in familiar Scriptures, surrounded by friends, family, and church community, and thrill in the excitement of the season. It can feel almost as if we are suspended, even if only for a brief moment, in the whole sweep of the story of redemption.
January will come eventually and winter will drag on interminably and we will find ourselves feeling as far away from Advent and Christmas as possible - despite it being just a few weeks behind us in the calendar. Though we must return to earth and come down from the mountaintop, we take with us a fresh bit of exhilaration from the season.
As we are now right in the middle of Advent, with two weeks behind us and two weeks to go, I encourage you to pause and take in the exhilaration of the season. Look around at the signs of the season: the Advent wreath, the Christmas tree. Read through the story of the birth of Christ once more and feel the thrill of the season. Let yourself be caught up in the Spirit - even if you don't hit the slopes this season to 'catch air.'

Peace,

Pastor Noah
