Berkeley SkyDeck was excited to host an intimate Fireside Chat with Arvind Gupta (Partner, Mayfield Fund), for SkyDeck’s Batch 15 founders. Topics ranged from what the world will look like in 2040, to how deep tech founders can fundraise in this environment, and the mindset academic life sciences founders must adopt to become entrepreneurs. Gupta advised founders that “context is the most important” aspect when speaking to VCs. If a founder can’t contextualize why their product matters and how it will solve a keystone problem, then they’re unlikely to be funded. He encouraged academic entrepreneurs to embrace “simple explanations of complex ideas” when pitching to VCs.
