It's Colorado Gives Day!

Please join in the spirit of giving this year and donate to PHNEE in support of the elementary schools in Greater Park Hill.

Click on DONATE and choose "PHNEE- One Park Hill Fund" from the dropdown menu. If you can, make it monthly. Any amount, no matter how small, will help us reach our goal of $10,000 this school year to support our neighborhood schools.

We have asked our principals to tell us how they might use additional funds this year. We want to give a big shoutout to Ken Burdette at Park Hill Elementary who immediately responded that, because their budget is larger than any of the other schools due to large enrollment, they would prefer any funds raised go to the 4 other schools. We appreciate this generous acknowledgement of what true equity is all about!

The others expressed their deep appreciation for our efforts and for the community's generosity and described some of their priorities for the use of additional funds.

Hallett Academy is unable to afford field trips for their students, most of whom have few opportunities outside of school to explore the world around them. Your generous support could help them reach their goal of providing 4 trips a year for every student.

Stedman is "uber-focused" on building educators' capacity for teaching with equity, diversity and inclusion top of mind. They will use resources to support teachers' intercultural development in their daily teaching practices. This might include strategic coaching and attending conferences in support of their reflective professional development.

Odyssey School is built on the expeditionary learning model and has a robust "adventure program" including overnight trips, sometimes to wilderness areas, as part of the curriculum. Additional resources would ensure that more students can participate.

Smith Elementary would like to offer students scholarships to participate in after-school enrichment opportunities such as soccer, ballet, Girls on the Run, and STEM programs.

You can make a difference for the kids in these schools! DONATE now!

REGISTER NOW FOR OUR SPECIAL EDEQUITY CORNER ON DECLINING ENROLLMENT!

Given the extraordinary circumstances around the recent vote of the school board not to close any schools, we have decided to host an EdEquity Corner on December 14 about where the district should go from here.

Many people believe the process used by the district to develop criteria for school consolidations was flawed. We think the process neglected to consider the broader policy picture of what has led to uneven enrollment in DPS schools in the first place. In 2020 we developed policy recommendations for the board in three main areas: school boundaries, student-based budgeting and choice. The pandemic interrupted our process of getting community input on the recommendations and the district began to focus on many other issues at that time. Now, we have an opportunity to bring those ideas forward again.

Prior to the board vote on the closure recommendations, we submitted this letter to the entire board. We have since had responses from members expressing their interest in discussing these matters further.

PLEASE JOIN US on December 14 at 7:00pm for this free, virtual event. We will discuss how to best advocate for our Park Hill schools and all schools as the district continues to grapple with declining enrollment. Register here
