Dear <<First Name>>,

As many of you may know, I am a lifelong learner and am very passionate about post-secondary education. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the colleges, universities, students, and all stakeholders for your collaborative teamwork and support while I was in the role of Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

However, I am equally excited to take on the role of the Minister of Municipal Affairs. Having served three terms on Burnaby City council, I have seen firsthand the incredible work local governments achieve for their communities. As Minister, I look forward to working with local governments to ensure the growth and development of a resilient and prosperous province.

I’m excited to work with Premier Eby and my cabinet colleagues to get things done for people. If the last few years taught us one thing, it’s that going it alone doesn’t work. We’re all in this together. As we tackle the problems of today, we’re determined to help everyone build a better future here in B.C.
Premier David Eby has announced a new cabinet made of experience and new energy that will focus on tackling the problems people are facing, and is currently working to make life better for British Columbians!

The new cabinet members are tasked with helping regular British Columbians with the cost of living, strengthening the health-care system, tackling the housing crisis so people can find affordable, attainable homes, making communities safer, advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, fighting the impacts of climate change and building a sustainable, clean-energy economy that works for everyone.

Two new ministries are being created to devote more attention and resources to major issues that impact British Columbians: the Ministry of Housing, and the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.

The new cabinet includes 23 ministers and four ministers of state. Gender representation remains balanced. The cabinet will be supported in its work by 14 parliamentary secretaries.

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:

B.C. drivers pay among the lowest auto insurance rates in Canada

In the face of global inflation, Premier Eby is taking action to lower costs for people such as car insurance rates. We compared how much auto insurance costs in provinces across Canada. The results? B.C. rates are among the most affordable.

Grants for non-profits improve arts, culture, sport access

Arts, culture and sport are critical for our collective mental health and help make our communities stronger and more vibrant every day. By supporting arts, culture and sporting activities, we’re working to strengthen our sense of belonging and diversity across B.C. As a way to back these activities, Community Gaming Grants, provide funding to more than 790 not-for-profit sport organizations and over 717 arts and culture organizations.

Province partners with YVR to electrify, reduce emissions

As part of the StrongerBC Economic Plan, the Integrated Marketplace Initiative kicks off with a pilot project that links Vancouver International Airport to B.C. clean-technology companies. These companies can help electrify operations at YVR, helping to meet its net-zero by 2030 commitment and become the world’s greenest airport. It’s important that we invest in our people, communities and our environment for a better future.

Fifteen British Columbians honoured for dedication of service

The Government of B.C. has selected 15 British Columbians to receive the Medal of Good Citizenship for their dedication and selfless service to their communities. “It’s an honour to award these individuals with the Medal of Good Citizenship,” said Premier Eby. “Each one of them embodies the traits of generosity, kindness and sacrifice for the benefit of others. Their actions touch so many lives, creating better communities throughout B.C. I commend each one of them. They are an example to all.”
