End of 2022 Financial Newsletter:
As promised here is an end-of-year financial update. Feel free to email questions!
Some additional information on two significant expenses: 1) the design & printing of this year’s Christmas concert program and 2) our music library.
Concerning the program:
- We wanted a program booklet that could be used by Nancy and others in their marketing and publicity efforts, in soliciting future sponsors, patrons, etc.
- The nature of the service (listing both the lessons, readers, and the carols, plus some text & interpretation) required more pages than past programs
- We had two corporate sponsors who required larger ads, but we also had fewer (I think) business cards than in the past
- We solicited three bids & went with the lowest originally offered.
- The graphic designer then lowered his rate because we are a non-profit, and the printer included color throughout because we were a first-time customer.
- We now have a reusable template & a workable relationship with both a graphic designer and printer.
Concerning the music library:
After trying unsuccessfully for several years (this began pre-Covid) to find a new home for the collection (including both at the Emmaus Library or Historical Society), a small space became available at Faith Church which was offered to us without any additional charge. We retrieved 15 tubs-ful of music from Phyllis’ home, but had to return the tubs. As part of that week-long effort, we needed to recycle some old music, then totally re-organize, re-label & re-box, plus update our index (spreadsheet) to reflect our current holdings and location.
We still need to have a Treasurer to assist with tracking dues payment and concert-related income and expenses. Personally, and professionally, I certainly am not in favor of having only one person in the organization responsible for this (currently that’s ME!). It opens too many opportunities for simple math errors, inaccurate records, not to mention liability and fraud. Surely, one of you has more financial acumen than I; you also can volunteer a spouse/partner or friend!
