Do You Have a Personal Computer Driver's License?
Twenty Years Ago (That's right - back in 2000), I wrote an e-Book entitled “Your Personal Computer Driver’s License”. It was my attempt to fill the gap between those who sold computers, Internet Providers and those who used the hardware and services without ever receiving proper instruction or guidance. To this day, consumers are harmed by their lack of knowledge when it comes to using the Internet, dealing with e-mail, securing their systems and backing up their personally created information. I still get angry when I hear of a breach, a system invasion, or damage done by a virus that could have been prevented if the user were better informed as to how to deal with such things BEFORE they occurred. I continually want to do more to help eliminate the risks and prepare users before they become victims. I will be revising my original e-Book later this year and for those who purchase it now for just $3.95, I'll be certain to upgrade their copy for free when it is published. While my original version is to say the least - "dated", It is still quite relevant to this day.

Artificial Intelligence (i.e. AI) and the Future of Search Engines
Since before computers were invented, Man has continually been driven to replicate the human brain and achieve it's remarkable ability to "think and reason". As computers become increasingly more powerful, software applications that utilize their vast memory and processing power get closer to mimicking thought and perhaps even generating new ideas, not originally "programmed". This concept of having machines "think" has been a concern in both Science Fiction and now in reality as examples of the possibilities are coming to the reach of end-users - not just scientists. OpenAI, the Company behind ChatGPT, has developed this model which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. If you Google how much money Microsoft has invested you'll find that :
"Microsoft Corp. is investing $10 billion in OpenAI, whose artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT has lit up the internet since its introduction in November, amassing more than a million users within days and touching off a fresh debate over the role of AI in the workplace"
There is now a waiting list for users to gain access to Microsoft's "New Bing Search Engine" which incorporates the Artificial Intelligence being developed by OpenAI to create a completely new Search Engine experience. The ability for a search engine to not only answer fully formed questions but to present the answers in elaborately written responses is just the beginning of where this technology is headed. Concerns abound surrounding the ethics and responsible application of AI. Microsoft has a division dedicated to this.
