Greetings, Georgia.

It's Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022.

We hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Cold weather wreaked havoc across the country, disrupting travel and accounting for dozens of lost lives, including two deaths in Macon— plus damage to residences and businesses in Georgia.

But take heart: a warming trend will bring temperatures in the 60s by Saturday.

Burst pipes damage apartments, businesses across metro Atlanta

If you’ve been on social media at all in the last 48 hours, it’s hard to miss all the videos of floods occurring in Atlanta apartment complexes and businesses as frozen pipes thawed and burst after the frigid weekend.

Apartment and condo buildings seemed particularly hard-hit as frozen sprinklers and pipes burst and flooded hallways, units, and lobbies — usually accompanied by blaring fire alarms. Icon Buckhead, Peninsula, Sheraton Atlanta Downtown, Paces 325, Helios, and Freedom Height Lofts were just some of the buildings damaged by burst pipes.

There were also videos of water cascading through Invesco’s headquarters, areas of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Lenox Square in Buckhead, Krog Street Market in Inman Park and Georgia State University’s Downtown campus.

  • "Well, the No. 1 thing is we want to definitely protect and preserve our landfills; our landfills are already overflowing," Ellen said.

All the Keep Georgia Beautiful treecyling sites will mulch together on Jan. 7 in their annual Bring One For The Chipper event. Most member groups will still take trees before and after that.
