Important health reminders before you return to campus
We encourage all students to take a COVID test within 72 hours before arriving on campus in January, as we have typically seen surges of COVID after breaks. We also encourage students to avoid large social gatherings for the first two weeks after you get back to campus to ensure there are no post-travel surges. Read more.
If you are actively ill when it is time to return to campus, remain at home
If you are actively ill, do not return to campus. Remain home until you are no longer contagious:
For flu, COVID, RSV, etc., remain away until your symptoms are improved and you have not had a fever (without using fever-reducing medications) for 24 hours. Read more.
For gastrointestinal illnesses such as noroviruses, you can be contagious for up to two days after your symptoms have resolved, so remain away until then.
See the full message from the Campus Health Committee.
Key academic dates for the spring semester
The first day of classes for undergraduate students is Jan. 9, 2023, as listed on the Academic Services calendar of the Registrar’s calendar page. Graduate and professional school students can also consult the Registrar’s calendar page to find links to the academic calendars for their respective programs.
Deacs win Gasparilla Bowl
Wake Forest defeated Southeastern Conference representative Missouri 27-17 to win the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23. The win marked Wake Forest's fifth in the last seven years since the Deacs began the Atlantic Coast Conference's second-longest bowl streak back in 2016.
What to do if winter weather prevents you from getting back to campus on time
If emergency weather conditions prevent you from returning to campus for the first day of classes, you should contact your spring semester professors directly to let them know of your delay. Residential students can notify the Office of Residence Life and Housing of a delay via our late arrival form if they need to check-in and get keys to a new room they did not occupy in the fall semester. If a student is simply returning to the same room they occupied in the fall, there is no need to notify Residence Life and Housing of a travel delay.
Annual Alcohol and Drug Policy notification
In accordance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, this notification is being sent to each member of the Wake Forest University community. Its purpose is to serve as a reminder of the health risks associated with drug and alcohol abuse; of University policies related to the illegal possession, use or distribution of drugs or alcohol; of the availability of treatment for drug or alcohol problems through the University Counseling Center, Student Health Service, and Office of Wellbeing; and of the internal sanctions and federal, state and local legal penalties that may result from the illegal sale, possession, consumption, use or distribution of drugs or alcohol. Read the full policy for Undergraduates.
Happy New Year to all!
