JANUARY 2023

January 2023 Diversity Newsletter

Happy New Year, and welcome to all as we begin a new semester. We will continue to highlight the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion as we engage with each other on campus and within our communities.

The message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. still rings true as we continue to strive for equity and social justice for all. The work cannot be done by one; it is a collective effort. I ask for your continued support as a diversity advocate, ally, or champion.

Change in Reporting Method for Discrimination/Retaliation Allegations

On December 1, 2022, CUNY implemented the CUNY Reporting Platform for allegations of discrimination and/or retaliation as prohibited and defined by the CUNY Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination Policy (“the EO Policy”). This Reporting Platform will provide students, employees, visitors, and the public with a uniform mechanism to report allegations of discrimination and/or retaliation.

Specific reporting obligations for managers and mandatory reporters: If managers receive a verbal or written report of conduct that may constitute discrimination and/or retaliation prohibited by the EO Policy or otherwise becomes aware of conduct that necessitates reporting, they must utilize the Reporting Form to notify the chief diversity officer (CDO), even if they notify the CDO of a discrimination/retaliation allegation by other means (in person, by phone or e-mail). Note that if someone makes a report directly to me or to my staff (in person, by phone or e-mail), I am obligated, as CDO, to complete and submit a Reporting Form through the CUNY Reporting Platform, detailing the information provided.

All other members of the university community who become aware of conduct that may constitute discrimination and/or retaliation prohibited by the EO Policy, are encouraged to submit a report using the Reporting Form.

Below are the links to the complaint forms, all of which can be found on the Office of Diversity and Equity Programs webpage.

Thank you all for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
