WA AustCyber Update

Hi <<First Name>>

Thanks for all of your support in 2022 and for being part of the WA cyber community. We wish you all the best for the festive period and send our very best Season's Greetings from the WA Hub team!

We can't wait to connect with you in 2023.
Cecily, Emma & Inga-  The WA AustCyber Innovation Hub Team.

Hub Activity Update

We've had a busy final quarter for 2022 with a range of activities supporting the cyber sector with the WA Mining Expo & Conference in October, Cyber Week in November and WestTechFest in December.

First up we supported four local cyber business to connect with the mining sector through the WA Mining Conference.  This included a cyber booth, the Hub hosted a panel "I've been hacked, what's next" discussing how a mining company should manage cyber threats and our Director, Cecily Rawlinson delivered a keynote "Cybersecurity: Managing Digital Risk in the Resources Sector."

November was national Cyber Week week. The AustCyber network ran events across the country.  In WA, the Hub delivered a range of events for industry and students. These included partnering with the City of Joondalup to deliver a Joondalup Business Forum on cyber export, hosting booths at WiTWA[+] and AISA #PerthSEC conferences and running a special Cyber Week Students of Cyber.  You can read the full recap in our blog post. The Hub also awarded our inaugural Students of Cyber Professional Learning Opportunity prize to Joel O’Brien and Swen Lee!

The Hub helped organise Cybotics AI Day – the first ever cyber, data science, robotics and AI themed day as party of WestTech Fest, WA's premier startup and tech festival. This was a great opportunity to demonstrate WA’s cyber capability and connect with the start-up community.

Cyber West Summit

CyberWest Summit is a flagship event designed to provide cyber security education and awareness to industry, small business, government and academia - highlighting WA cyber security capabilities and translating key cyber messages for non-technical industry professionals.

Please complete the Expressions of Interest form on our website if you are interesting in sponsoring or running a workshop during CyberWest Summit. We will be launching applications for speakers early in the New Year so stay tuned! See more info here.

Stay safe online this festive period

The holiday season should be a time of festivity and celebration. Unfortunately, the hectic nature of the Christmas period cultivates an increased wave of online scams. The number of scams has soared since the onset of covid, but as digitisation remains strong, so too has the frequency of these attacks.

Read this article for 5 scams to watch out for and various ways you can protect yourself.
