Appropriations Update
The House of Representatives and the Senate have passed a $1.7 trillion omnibus bill, funding the government through the end of FY23 (September 30, 2023). President Biden is expected to sign the measure into law in the coming days. The legislation includes $772.5 billion in non-defense funding and $858 billion in defense funding. The FY23 funding levels for key Federal agencies include:
- National Institutes of Health: $47.5 billion (5.7% increase from FY22)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: $9.2 billion (9.0% increase from FY22)
- National Science Foundation: $9.9 billion* (11.7% increase from FY22)
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration Science Mission Directorate: $7.8 billion (2.4% increase from FY22)
- Department of Energy Office of Science: $8.1 billion (8.4% increase from FY22)
* = Includes one time supplemental funds for NSF, available in FY23-FY24.
