Festive greetings from David Livingstone Birthplace!

Thank you to all who have supported us this year - we've had an amazing year and we couldn't have done it without you.

We hope you have a fantastic winter break and a very happy new year!

Here's to 2023 and #Legacy150...
(STAY TUNED!)

2022 Highlights

Here's just a few projects and events that we delivered this year.

Thank you to our funders and partners for making this work possible.

Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Thank you to our team for all of their hard work.

And again, thank you all for supporting us!

Exchange Project

Between January and June 2022, 6 participants worked with the David Livingstone Birthplace team to deliver a creative project inspired by our collection, exploring experiences of empire, migration and life in Britain.

The experience culminated with a Tingatinga event, showcasing the creative work from the team.

With support from National Museums Scotland and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) with Royal Museums Greenwich.
Community Fun Day

This August, we hosted our first Community Fun Day with help from Blantyre's ASDA and local emergency services.

The sun was shining and we welcomed over two thousand guests throughout the day who took part in garden games, scavenger hunts, and sports day games!
Storytelling Festival

In October, we hosted a storytelling festival with The Skinny magazine, which was programmed by Scottish-Zimbabwean artist and researcher Natasha Thembiso Ruwona.

The event showcased creative practitioners from African Scottish diaspora & storytelling through fiction, history, poetry, dance, and music.

With support from Museums Galleries Scotland.
My Own Scottish Flower Garden

David Livingstone Birthplace hosted a series of workshops facilitated by local artist, Sophie Minervini.

The workshops explored our local and native plant life throughout the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds, promoting curiosity and connection with our natural world.

With support from ‘Grow Wild’ - the national outreach programme of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Our Parkland

This year, we were able to make improvements to the parkland at David Livingstone Birthplace!

The work includes:
  • A new gazebo
  • Our new ice-cream kiosk
  • Improved paths
  • Repaired steps
  • New picnic benches and benches
  • Additional signage
With support from South Lanarkshire Council.

Merry Christmas!
