I've had the privilege of being in our kids' lives for six years now! Watching them grow from kids to teenagers, and then from teenagers to adults, has been my greatest blessing at Hopestart.
I've had the privilege of walking with them through some of their brightest and best days as well their hardest, darkest moments. Every life is different but each situation can be a life-changing, teachable moment where God shows up. My motto has been, don't try to fix their problem but instead be present with them with a splash of encouragement. And as they turn a new leaf in life, or take steps to better themselves and our community, they come back willing to share what's happening in their hearts and minds because this is a place where they feel safe and loved.
When you support Hopestart through your prayers and financial donations, you're giving me and others on the team the chance to speak life, love, and courage into our kids. I will never forget when one of our teens struggled through high school. I quickly learned that it was not school itself but a personal and private situation affecting her. She was struggling with identity issues (don't we all at some point?!) and God was her only intervention.
As I sat there cringing through her life choices, I promised her one thing, that I would always be here for her and would never give up on her. A year then passed and she told me she had missed so many days of school that she could not possibly pass her 11th grade state exams. With two weeks to go, I encouraged her to press into God and pray for his wisdom and courage. Trying and failing was better than not trying at all. I encouraged her to give it her best shot. One month later, she came running and told me she received her exam results: she passed! And she was being promoted to her senior year!
