This issue of The Currents continues our series that asks Members of Member Clubs: What does the ICOYC mean to you? This month, we hear from Robert Kottler, Board Member at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, LA, USA and Board Member of the ICOYC:

As a representative of Southern Yacht Club and board member of ICOYC, I have forged relationships and connections and have traveled to visit other clubs for regional conferences and international forums. All yacht cubs share common bonds and challenges. ICOYC's regional and international conferences have enabled my club to move forward to more confidently solve problems, gain new perspectives, and better prepare for the future.
COUNCIL EVENTS
Gstaad Yacht Club Invites All Clubs to Attend 9th ICOYC European Conference — March 9–11, 2023

Registration is now open and a provisional agenda available for the 9th ICOYC European Conference to be held at Gstaad Yacht Club on March 9–11, 2023. Topics will include Maintenance of Boat Parks, Media and Communications in the Club, How a Yacht Club Can Matter to Society, CRM Systems for Club and How to Retain Top Sailing Coaches. Details of the Conference including registration are available via the links below.

VSaW Aims to be Most Sustainable Club in Germany

In April of 2022, Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee partnered with a local environmental agency to set out to become the most sustainable Yacht Club in Germany. This past fall, the club published the results of its first member survey regarding sustainability — revealing trends that all Council clubs may find interesting. 
Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona Awarded the Nautical Sports Merit Cross

The Nautical Sports Merit Cross is awarded annually by the Spanish Maritime Sports League to recognize commitment, tenacity, leadership and exemplary work for society; all of which MRCYB practice and hold in high regard.
Celebrating the Holidays at Long Beach Yacht Club

LBYC shares a glimpse into some of their treasured holiday celebrations and traditions, including visits from Santa Claus, Caroling in the Canals, and taking part in a parade!

 
RACE NEWS
Despite Lack of Breeze, Rolex Middle Sea Race Turns Heads

In 2022, a fleet of 118 yachts from 24 countries entered the Rolex Middle Sea Race, starting in Malta and completing a 606-mile counterclockwise circumnavigation of Sicily before returning. This year’s race was challenging due to its lack of breeze, but the coverage was phenomenal. Please enjoy this remarkable recap film presented by Rolex:
 
NRV Wins the Triple!

The Norddeutscher Regatta Verein goes down in the annals of German sailing history as the first club to win the Champions League Cup, Championship Cup and League Cup.
How StFYC’s Daniela Moroz Won her 6th Kiting World Title

Kite racing phenom Daniela Moroz, of St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, CA, recently shared a behind-the-scenes look into the training tactics and mental preparedness that helped her win her 6th Kite Foil World Championship title. 
 
Route du Rhum – Made in Genoa with Support from YCI

Ambrogio Beccaria placed as the runner-up in the Route du Rhum and took a “100% made in Genoa” approach with the newly-launched AllaGrande Pirelli.
 
Seattle Yacht Club Hosts the Tasar World Championships

This September, the Tasar World Championships were held on the shores of Seattle and welcomed participants from as far away as Australia, Japan and Canada, as well as those from across the United States.
 
LBYC Builds Legends

Long Beach Yacht Club celebrates the legacy of strong women in racing and strives to continue celebrating the accomplishments from the past while looking to attract and encourage the next generation of racing women.
 
2023 Star Class North American Championship to Come to RVYC

Royal Vancouver Yacht Club looks forward to welcoming the 2023 Star Class North American Championships in Spring 2023. RVYC was granted a Star Class charter in 1922, and has a long history of sailing the 23ft, two-person, one-design keelboat in competition.

Yacht Club Italiano is pleased to announce the itinerary for the Rolex Giraglia taking place June 2023. The Notice of Race and registrations will be available soon.
