Hi <<First Name>>,

A happy festive season to you! Welcome again to ADHD Matters where, once a month, I share some of what I'm reading (occasionally writing), watching, listening to; things I'm trying out or working on, and ADHD matters I'm just pondering.
What I'm listening to...

The Drummer and the Great Mountain” a podcast hosted by Bahman Sarram and author of the book by the same name, Michael Ferguson. One of you shared this podcast with me and asked me what I thought.

I really like the way the author makes sense of ADHD as a neurological ‘hunter’ type rather than a disorder. It offers a soulful, holistic perspective on the real-world experience of living with ADHD that I found positive and empowering. While I wouldn’t say everything in the podcast resonated with me, much did – I’d love to hear what you think too!
What I've been working on...

Creating a resource around reasonable ADHD accommodations in the workplace. I’m happy to say the document is now available for download here. As Francis Bacon said in 1597, “knowledge is power”.
What I'm testing...

Humango - an AI driven triathlon and fitness coaching platform. Unsurprisingly I struggle with motivation, and as you know, one way to help with motivation is to externalise it. Humango does that for me.

A while ago, despite the best of intentions, I was really struggling to get back into exercise. Ironically, while watching a YouTube video to “get inspired,” I came across Humango and decided to give it a go. And now when a bot tells me to swim, I swim. If it says run day, then it is run day. What I really like is that it does all the planning for me, and even automatically adjusts when I need to skip a session (or accidentally mix up the days 🤦‍♂️).
I’m planning to use...

This out of office message very soon:

“Thanks for your message!

I’m away getting a head start on my 2023 commitment to take more breaks. A recharged version of myself will reply when I return on January 9th!”

Try it, craft your own! There is something empowering, even liberating, in the playful honesty embedded in such a message. If you are taking time off for the holidays, please allow yourself to disconnect, rest and recharge.
I've enjoyed

A video my uncle recently shared with me – yes, Cape Town is now the proud owner of its very own Christmas song. While it is not exactly my style of music (I’m more of a folk, surfer rock, big band jazz, psytrance kind of guy!), it does make me smile and softly whispers, “this is home.” And so, I wanted to share it with you too, a little glimpse into how Christmas looks in this magical city, with all its beauty on display. I do hope it makes you smile too and that you also get to spend your holiday in a special place just like this.
I ran to raise awareness of ADHD
and supported a great non-profit

I did my Run4ADHD Challenge 2022 this month to support Goldilocks and the Bear Foundation.

GB4ADHD is genuinely a great non-profit that provides life-changing mental health screening for children in disadvantaged communities. All donations welcome – any size, any time. Thanks!
And thanks for reading. As always, all feedback is welcome - just drop me a note. Which part of the newsletter did you enjoy most or really resonated with you? What would you like to see more or less of? Any other suggestions? Let me know.

For now, I wish you an incredibly happy holiday, surrounded by loved ones and festive cheer, speak again next year!

Philip
