My favorite Los Angeles places and spaces...
PLAY: To recharge, my family and I leave the city and spend time in nature. Our go-to is Malibu Lagoon State Beach.

CREATE: As a daughter of immigrants, I saw food and cooking as an obligation, but through Flavors From Afar, I have come to see it as an art, and that inspired me to go to culinary school. Our executive Chef, Kenna Copes, referred me to the Institute of Culinary Education in Pasadena, as she is a graduate of their program. I am so excited to be in culinary school and am looking forward to all the techniques I’ll be learning!

CONNECT: Shoutout to Grid110! During my time with Grid110, I learned a ton. I am thankful for their program and the community it allowed me to create with BIPOC and immigrant entrepreneurs. It was the first time I felt understood and empowered as a founder.

LEARN: Every day I learn something new from my colleagues and amazing refugee chefs. Learning from them is unparalleled, as I am always curious to learn more about their home countries, the politics, and why they were displaced. What makes me more curious is their commitment to preserving their family cultures and cuisines.

LIVE: Between Flavors from Afar and The Tiyya Foundation, I've created a lifestyle around helping new immigrants and creating an international community. I've been doing this work for 12 years and have been recently selected as a Top 10 CNN Hero.
