2023 Lifesaving Development Camp

Last week Surf Life Saving Tasmania welcomed 21 enthusiastic young surf lifesavers from across the state to experience the 2023 Tasmanian Lifesaving Development Camp.

The camp was highly successful with candidates being trained in First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques and IRB qualifications. Surf Life Saving Tasmania is very excited for the future leaders of the organisation and their dedication to the movement. Over the week, the candidates dealt with complex and challenging scenarios that targeted their treatment, critical decision making, incident management, resource allocation and debriefing.

SLST would like to thank the Management Team and Leaders for their hard work and commitment to the program, the Ulverstone SLSC and their fantastic catering team for hosting the camp once again.

Thanks also go to the many local businesses who supported the camp through sponsorship and donation of goods, these include:

Subway, Simplot, Squibbs Orchards, Cripps Bakery, No Frills Supermarkets, Leven Milk Supply, McDonalds and Betta Milk.

Hooray! Starfish Nippers is Back!

Thanks to our friends at Variety the Children's Charity TAS, Starfish nippers is back again this summer!

On Tuesday, the first session for the southern region Starfish Nippers program was run at Kingston Beach. Volunteers from Kingston Beach, Carlton Park and Clifton Beach Surf Life Saving Clubs and the community came together to support young children living with disabilities in the water.

There were lots of squeals of laughter, many salty smiles on show and so many friendships made today. We can't back to see you all again at Clifton on the 4th!

With sessions being held around the state there is bound to be loads of fun, so register now!

Sandy Bay Holiday Program Underway!

In the first two weeks of January, children aged 7 and above participated in the Sandy Bay Leap into Lifesaving program.

This program is designed to provide water safety information to the wider community, those who may not be able to attend Nippers each weekend. We have had great feedback from the program and are excited that we have shared the water safety message to children of Hobart.

If this interests you, there are still activities until the end of the school holidays.

2023 Interstate Championships

Congratulations to our athletes who competed in the Interstates Championships held at Maroubra, NSW on Monday 16th January.

Our State team of 36 Tasmanian athletes (Open/Youth/Pathways), from 9 Tasmanian clubs competed. The team had some awesome results across all the beach and water contests with all our athletes giving it their all - the position results don't do justice to how close these athletes were to their mainland counterparts.

The sand pit was the place to be with Noah Ray becoming the crowd favourite with many others cheering for him alongside the Tassie team and supporters. Noah placed 3rd in the Youth beach flags.

Well done everyone!

Super Surf Teams League

Last weekend saw the Tassie Sea Dragons take part in the Super Surf Teams League for the first time, held at Maroubra Beach, NSW.

Wow, what an experience for this team with 3 rounds of jam-packed racing. The big stand out performance was James Fullarton winning the male surf race in RD1 - James lined up as the youngest competitor in the field and took it the big guys - catching a wave on the way back in to get to the beach first. The Tassie spectators went wild! The commenters went wild! Congratulations James!

The Nutri Grain Rounds were held on Saturday and Sunday with lots of close racing and an electric atmosphere on the beach. Watching this racing live was great experience for all our touring team.

Well done Tassie Sea Dragons!

Fuelling our Rescue Equipment!

Fuelling our rescue equipment!

This season all Tasmanian Surf Life Saving Clubs and Volunteers Marine Rescue Units each received $500 fuel vouchers through the generous support of Surf Life Saving Australia's national partner Ampol Australia, as well as our state partners Bonney Energy Tasmania and Bennett's Petroleum.

The partnership, which is in its second year, sees the iconic Australian brands join forces to help deliver safer beaches and coastlines. The support enables our Clubs and Units to fuel vital rescue equipment across the state to ensure we are able to continue to support our communities and save lives.
