City of Niagara Falls crews prepared for major winter storm forecast
Residents are encouraged to take precautions when travelling for the holidays

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - A combination of rapidly falling temperatures, damaging winds, and heavy snowfall with blizzard-like conditions is forecasted for the Niagara Region late this week and into the holiday weekend.
With a major winter storm looming, the City of Niagara Falls reminds residents to be prepared and adjust their holiday plans accordingly. As City crews work around the clock to ensure the community’s safety, residents are encouraged to visit niagarafalls.ca/winter for detailed information on the City’s response to significant weather events and how you can do your part during a winter storm.

Road clearing
City crews prioritize snow clearing on mainline arterials and critical roadways during a snow event. Local roads will be cleared after priority roads are passable, meaning residents and businesses can expect most roadways to be cleared approximately 24 hours after the end of a minor snow event. Please note that this timeline is extended to 48 hours when a significant weather event is declared due to heavy snowfall, blowing snow, ice, or other extreme weather.

Refrain from parking on the street during winter storms
Parked cars make plowing difficult and sometimes impossible on narrow residential streets. Refraining from parking on the street during a snowstorm allows plows to effectively and efficiently clear roadways.
Drive safe this holiday weekend
- Give more distance between cars, slow down, and allow yourself more travel time
- Clear snow off your car completely before driving
- Check car battery condition, windshield wipers and washer fluid levels
- Keep gas tank at least half full
- Allow your vehicle to warm up
- Give snowplows space
Keep a winter survival kit in your car with the following items:
- Charged phone
- Water
- Non-perishable food
- Flashlight
- Blanket and warm clothes
- Jumper cables
- Shovel
- Traction mats or sand
- Candles and a lighter or matches
Cold weather relief
