WALLED GARDEN HEDGE PLANTING
All went swimmingly to plan with the delivery of the plants to replace the box hedge and the manure to give them a good start until the north wind blew and we were iced up and snow covered.
Dean and Charlotte of Veolia managed to plant a row on the first freezing Saturday and after that the snow descended and planting was halted.  Thankfully Dean has started again and planted another side and will continue during the warmer weather. The garden remains closed until all the planting is done, the displaced pavings mended and the garden is safe to walk in.

Sad news for the GGG,Gladstone Gardening Group, as the creative of us had fashioned our Christmas constructions of twig, leaf and recycled rubbish ready to decorate the garden as we have done the last two years. Photos:  Bringing in the plants:  The manure arrives:  Laying out the plants to a scale:  Unpacking the plants
WINTER COPSE NEWS FROM DAVID
The copse is an invaluable refuge for wildlife during the bitterly cold winters. The density of the trees act as a wind-brake keeping temperatures warmer than in the surrounding park land. This is a welcome relief to the small birds seeking shelter whilst foraging for insects and seeds on the woodland floor. The dense covering of fallen leaves provides additional warmth for wood mice, frogs and toads hibernating during the coldest months. The berries from holly, hawthorn, blackthorn and the seeds from flowering ivy provide welcome nourishment for resident and migrating birds.

EGYPTIAN GOOSE ON POND STATUE
The gardening group have heard these geese recently heading across the garden to the north maybe flitting between Welsh Harp and the GP pond.
Introduction date into the UK varies but in the 1960's there was a well established group in Norfolk that has since expanded rapidly.
They breed in late winter laying their eggs in holes and under bushes.
Male and female are similar

Is there a loved one you would like to remember and think about when visiting the Gladstone Park?
