Kamloops Athletes Continue to Achieve

2022 has proven to be a year of grit and determination for KCKC.  The athletes continue to show up when they are asked and DO THE WORK because they have big dreams.  With eight athletes on the CKBC Provincial Team for 2023 and two more, (Miyana Fenrich & Leilani Vanderydt) on the Next Gen Team.  KCKC High Performance is looking at a bright 2023.

Our Competitive Team is a vibrant group and it begins with our youngest paddlers.  Nihal Chouhan and Deacon Pisio brought their energy to the lake and we look forward to seeing them back in 2023.  Suchet Chouhan continues to bring his enthusiasm and willingness to learn how to master the kayak too.  It is easy to stand on shore, but to get in a boat is another challenge!

Congratulations to Nate Neuls for making the switch from Kayak to Canoe this season.  Change is never easy and the most difficult part is making the decision.  Determination and perseverance paid off and now he has big goals for 2023!

CKBC RESULTS

John Grover

KCKC needed a steady leader during when our last group of HP Athletes retired.  Since 2019 you have seen us through COVID, assisted in obtaining the Pioneer Park Facility and planned for future success.  Your vision is first and foremost making KCKC a FUN and Welcome environment for ALL Families!  Thank you for being our Commodore!

Jennifer Jackson

Thank you for your kindness and leadership since 2019.  Your work as KCKC Secretary, Vice-Commodore, Fundraising Chair & Safety Officer are greatly appreciated.  As always Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!  2023 looks very bright and the planning from 2022 is very exciting!!

Trevor Twemlow

How many hours did you volunteer in the Safety Boat during 2020?  Too many to count, but enough to keep big dreams alive!  Thank you for bringing your family back to KCKC where you spent years in a Canoe.  Your instrumental work in the Pioneer Park Community Paddling storage facility has extended our season into early Spring and late Fall.  Being available to do repairs and offer suggestions has made club operations much easier over the last 4 years.  Enjoy the new sporting adventures with your family!

Scott Decker

Thank you for the countless hours of work behind the scenes writing the proposals that bring critical funding to our club.  Writing applications is not a glamorous role, yet it is the one that provides us with funding for summer staff wages, new equipment, sport partnership opportunities and more.  Your willingness to share your knowledge about Skate Skiing has been a valuable resource our athletes and parents.  Thank you for volunteering your time and continuing to mentor us.

Abigail Donaldson captured Bronze at Canada Summer Games and achieved her dream of standing on the podium at Nationals too.  The journey and hard work will always be remembered but most importantly the friends made along the way have had an impact.

BC Summer Games highlighted many amazing attributes of our athletes.  They were independent and survived the experience on their own.  For many, it was their first regatta without a parent at the tent helping them stay on track.  Abi and Aiden had the task of coaching, supervising and being there when times were tough.  Thank you!

Congratulations to Mischa Grover for being selected the $2.000.00 W.R. Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence.  Each sport nominated one athlete and CKBC nominated Mischa.    The BC Games Society selected Mischa as the winner of this award based on her athletics and leadership attributes.

Congratulation to Damian Hickey for being selected the Zone 2 BC Games Male Leadership $500 Bursary Award winner.  All BC Games athletes were invited to apply for this award and Damian was selected based on his academics, athletics, community involvement and mentorship of a youth at school with diverse needs.
Congratulations to Quintin Neuls on achieving a position with the marathon Canada team, where he competed in K2, along with another six athletes from across the country in Portugal this past September. It was an amazing experience competing alongside top athletes from every corner of the globe and representing Canada.

The Marek Generation of Athletes began at KCKC in 2013.  During an interview, Stan said "I want to create a generation of MY athletes."  Since his arrival, he has not only focused on building a generation of champions, but he has produced that twice.  He has watched the growth of two generations of boys and girls turn into young men and women at KCKC.  They lean forward, reach forward, dig deep, and move with grit and determination.

As Stanislav moves into his role as CKBC Technical Director, KCKC has the foundation of leadership and programming to encourage more sparkles and magic in the hearts and minds of our little people who venture to Canoe Kids Summer Camps.

The Marek Generation will continue to work with Stan and build on those dreams that began so many years ago.

Please use this website to research post secondary and financial aid resources.  The SD#73 Common Application offers the Damian Jensen $500 award for an athlete in an individual sport that involves travel.  The Ministry of Education District Authority Award is $1,250.00 and applicants must show excellence in an area outside of academics.  SKSS normally distributes 18 awards a year.

Applicants for many awards must be in their Grade 12 year and have Community Involvement.  Please consider volunteering for KCKC and don't forget to document your hours.  There is a form on the website that you can copy into your GEDU account.  It is the template that is used on ALL SD#73 application forms and reference letter request forms.
