Upcoming Winter Programs
Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction
If you need to update your private pesticide applicator certification for the 2022-2023 winter by attending training, you are welcome to attend one of my programs. I have programs from December 2 to March 23. Please contact the county extension office to confirm the details and pre-register as most counties are requiring that! My list of private programs is downloadable here.
Additionally, there will be three online options available on January 31 (6 pm), February 28 (1 pm), and April 4 (9 am). Keep an eye out for marketing for these programs in January. If my continuing instruction events don't work for your schedule, please reach out to your nearest county extension office to see what options they have for you.
CropsTV is back for Season 3 in an ALL NEW platform! Registration is open now and episodes will begin dropping on January 3, 2023 and will continue becoming available through January! With 33 episodes total and a mixture of 0.5 and 1.0 CCA credit options, you'll have plenty to keep you busy! Subscribers will have access to episodes through March 31, 2023. Check out the CropsTV website for more information on this season's episodes and to register!
Crop Advantage Series is returning in January to 14 locations across the state of Iowa. The closest location to central Iowa is Ankeny on January 17, but there are meetings in Webster City, Cedar Falls, Atlantic, Denison, and Chariton that are all somewhat near to central Iowa as well. Attendees can get their private pesticide applicator continuing instruction and CCA credits, along with lunch and refreshments included in the registration. Join us at one of our 14 locations this January by registering here!
Planter University - Feb. 6-10
Planter University is returning for a second winter to 5 locations across the state. This is a company-neutral, in-depth planter clinic focused on helping you better understand and optimize your planter setup for the growing season. This is an absolute can't miss event if you use a planter, require proper seed planting for performance of your products, or provide recommendations to farmer customers regarding their planting practices. The final session on Friday, February 10 will be at the CNH Industrial Ag Information Center near Nevada, but other sites are available in Sutherland, Nashua, Crawfordsville, and Woodbine. We've only got 40 spots available at each location and they'll fill up fast - we sold out last year! Check out the program and register here!

Weed Management & Herbicide Program Planning Resources for 2023
There are several updated weed management & herbicide program planning resources that might be helpful for 2023. Some of these resources are free and others are available at a cost, but I often reference several of them at once when doing program planning because weed spectrums and herbicide evaluations can vary some across the universities.
Additionally, www.cdms.net/label-database, www.greenbook.net, and product manufacturer websites are great resources to look up product labels for pesticides you are considering using or have ordered for the 2023 growing season. You can check out application considerations, rates, pests controlled, and even look at things like personal protective equipment you'll want to have in advance of mixing and applying the products. I'd encourage you to take one of these cold, snowy days to do this kind of planning for 2023 by checking out the labels for your products ahead of application season.
One thing I noticed from this growing season was more waterhemp surviving under corn canopies than in past years. I do think that our spring weather meant longer gaps between PRE herbicides and corn planting in some fields, which could've been part of the issue, but I also think we're at a point where we can't afford marginal control in corn. Let me know if I can be of help in planning for 2023.
