Welcome to our December Newsletter
As we close up and reflect upon 2022, I wanted to share with you some of my highlights, some of my goals for 2023 and to share an article that I hope will provoke some activation towards a better tomorrow.
This last year I have harnessed the power of women by joining two women's groups that have both been different and amazing (Jacqueline Nagle's Any Given Tuesday and OneRoof). I have learnt so much. These groups have given me so much confidence in the power of women and what we can do together. My other experiences, in learning more about our First Nations ways of doing things, shows me that we can do so much better in how we work, how we approach our meetings, how we can ensure all have an equal voice and that it is ok to feel more comfortable with your cohort of like souls.
And guess what, men and women are different (based on how you identify) and that is ok. We have different ways of doing things, different ways of thinking and working together and yes, women are way more collaborative than men could ever try to be on their own. So watch out patriarchy, we are only just beginning on our journey of self-discovery.
The 2nd group I joined, OneRoof, ended with a lovely guided meditation to bring you into a space where you could reflect on what actually happened, what you achieved, what you learnt. It was a powerful experience and highlighted to me that I have achieved a lot this year. (Thanks to FB: ChristineCorcorancoach; listen to The next level life podcast)
Here's some of those reflections and I hope you find the prompts useful for your own reflections:
What did we achieve
- Three case studies to test and validate the InnoWise framework and tools
- Turned the Knowledge Canvas prototype into software that can be accessed via the InnoWise portal app
- Our first paying client
- Lee started writing that book
What did I overcome
- Having confidence to say no to water engineering work (for a little while)
- Having confidence to proceed with our mission by really understanding our why and our mission - which is to help you do better with innovation and save the planet
What created the most growth
- Learning from others, coach
- Doing the case studies and testing the products
- Landing a client
What slowed the growth
- Doing water work
- Not focusing on key tasks, having clear goals
- Confidence
- Time
What drained your energy? What's not your field of genius?
- Doing water work (there's a theme here)
- Getting website, media working, admin (yes, I need to outsource)
What gave you energy
- Lee does Nia dance (it is amazing!)
- Talking to clients, potential clients, mentors
- Lee found great energy from the women's groups she is now a part of
- First Nations experience in cultural awareness and meeting structure was amazing
What lessons did this year teach you about business, money, success
- You can't do it alone
- There's lots to learn
- Working out what to charge is not easy
- We have a valuable lesson to teach
- The planet needs innovation
- We waste too many resources on failed innovations - an example here from the World Economic Forum:
- In next five years, $10 trillion per annum will be spent on digital transformations
- Only 1% of those will succeed or achieve expectations
- That's $9,900 billion spent not achieving expectations, WOW!
- So, if we could improve the way we transform (ie, innovate) by just 1%, we will save $99 billion per year
- How to be clear (it's harder than it sounds)
Imagine a world where this money could be better spent, or actually achieve expectations! This is why InnoWise is so needed. We need to do innovation better.
What are we Celebrating
- First paid client using InnoWise products
- Launch of the InnoWise portal app
- Started that book
- Being a part of a women's movement.
Thought Activator
Now for that thought activator. This article breaks my heart as it provides yet another evidence point of the damage we are causing. I'm sure most of us who drive in the country would have seen a reduction in the number of insects on our screens. There even seems to be a reduction in road kill (which is awful that it occurs but it is noticeable). What thoughts or emotions does this article provoke in you? Thoughts and feelings it brings to my mind are:
- I am scared for our future
- What are we really doing to stop this, reduce this?
- What else can we do to prevent or slow this down?
- What will our world be like without insects that we need, that the environment needs, that our fauna and flora needs?
Goals for 2023
My goal which is aligned to my values of caring, sharing and respect:
- I commit to bringing my goal of increasing the awareness of the benefits of Innovating Wisely by increasing the number of followers (undisclosed). Embodying my value of sharing and caring for our planet, will help me become the person who experiences this result by the end of 2023.
Actions for next year to help meet this goal:
- Write and publish the book
- Launch a series of masterclasses - to teach how to Innovate Wisely
- Out source.
My promise to myself to make 2023 different:
- Be kind to yourself and to others and be confident, you have a message worth telling.
Final remarks for 2022
Our mission has changed as we realised our main purpose is to help people innovate. We do this by providing a framework, tools and support that will help them navigate through the turbulence that innovation brings so that we can have a better tomorrow.
