Airline Industry Get-Together

Air Cargo Belgium (ACB), Airline Operators Committee (AOC), Board of Airline Representatives (BAR) and Belgian Air Transport Association (BATA) jointly organised the 'Airline Industry Get-Together' on Tuesday 20 December 2022. It was the first time that the four airline organisations brought together delegates from their more than 300 members and some leading industry stakeholders at a joint event.

The evening started with a panel discussion in which the presidents of the four associations, Luc Geerts (BAR Belgium), David Bellon (Air Cargo Belgium), Dieter Bruneel (AOC Brussels) and Wencke Lemmes-Pireaux (BATA) elaborated on the challenges and needs regarding themes such as sustainability, fleet renewal and the need for a multimodal hub with HST connectivity at Brussels Airport. The crucial role of cargo operations at Brussels Airport and synergies with passenger transport were also discussed in detail. During the COVID pandemic, our national airport was the global centre for the distribution of two billion vaccines that gave us a way out of the pandemic. Both cargo and passenger carriers played a crucial role in this. The panel discussion provided an ideal opportunity to exchange views and discover common ground between other organisations.

The evening ended with a networking event. Numerous guests were delighted with the first edition of the Airline Industry Get-Together, encouraging the four associations to further strengthen cooperation in the future.

Covid-19 vaccines

1.7 billion is the number of Covid-19 vaccines that have been shipped through Brussels Airport to over more than 120 countries worldwide, from November 2020 until now. We would like to thank our community for the joints efforts to have turned this challenge into a succes during the pandemic!

IMPORTANT changes in IATA Dangerous Goods training

As from 1/1/2023, all Dangerous Goods trainings must be IATA CBTA compliant. Current educational programs will be transformed into Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA).

5 roles are identified in the CBTA training approach: Employer, Instructor, Designer and Assessor. Aviato academy offers trainings specific for each role. Please find below the links for these trainings. More info on these roles can be found in the attached pdf.
There will be three sorts of accreditations, specific to your organization:
  • The CBTA Corporate accreditation, for organizations that give in-house trainings e.g., airlines, GHAs…
  • The CBTA Provider accreditation, for organizations offering trainings to clients e.g., schools and institutions
  • The CBTA Excellence accreditation, for organizations both giving DG-trainings and solutions for clients e.g.  schools and institutions

Every 2 years, the accreditation must be revalidated. In case you now have a valid accreditation, it will remain valid until a period of 2 years is reached (since the accreditation was obtained).
The former categories will be transformed into functions, please find attached the slides of Aviato Academy summarizing these changes.

All IATA DGR e-learnings are published on the website of Aviato Academy.
Aviato Academy is also organizing an instructor training on 20 February.
For other IATA CBA DGR courses, please visit the Aviato Calendar of 2023.

Schedule FAVV - Christmas period

Between Christmas and New Year, the FAVV is open until 16.30. Afterwards, there is permanence for urgent cases.
Usually, in the 'BRUcargo professionals' section, we put 1 person from the community in the spotlight and talk about their job. For the last edition of this year, we like to do something special. We asked several members to send in a Christmas wish. In this way, we want to bring warmth and wishes from the community to the community.
