Hanukkah and Our New Cantorial Soloist
Made for a Spectacular Evening!!!

And Another Musical Event is Coming in January – See below!

From the latkes to the singing, everyone had a delightful time. Thanks are due first to Shoshanah Schwartz who once again put her talent into making such a wonderful event and her co-chair, Ariadne Weaver, too – todah rabah to both. Everyone brought delicious food, treats and wine but two standouts were Donna Small’s brisket and Rozann Newman’s salmon – both devoured in minutes!!

The Musik Menches band played beautifully and joyfully, we sang and danced (see a photo of Sho and David slow dancing – we witnessed such a tender moment) and best of all, our new cantorial soloist, Phoebe Light, sang and played guitar. She even wrote a song just for SYVJC – don’t miss it in the photo section!! We sang together, laughed together, and ate together – what a joy to be a collective group.

And here’s another event you most definitely don’t want to miss!! The January 13th Musical Shabbat will feature Rob Reade from the band Soul Aviv and the Red Sea Rhythm Rockers. Phoebe Light, our new cantorial soloist will be joining him for a couple of songs.

On January 13, come for the singing, food, camaraderie, and general fun all around. Enter it into your calendar now and don’t worry, more info to follow soon!!!

Happy Hanukkah to all and Happy New Year, too!!

They All Said

Everyone I asked to help with the Hanukkah party said yes! That doesn’t always happen.

A BIG TODAH RABAH to the team who made the party a success…..

Ari Weaver, my “other half” who helped organize the stuff in storage, shopped with and without me and used her artist’s eye to masterfully take charge of schmaltzing up Stacy Hall with glitz and glitter. And, as always she also created the name tags.

Chef Brooke from the Los Olivos Café and Wine Merchant fried up a ton of latkes from her grandmother’s recipe – thank you, Sam and Shawnda Marmorstein, owners of the Café, for donating this special holiday staple.

Jeff Winter, with his trusty white truck, shlepped the Hanukkah stuff out of storage, brought it over to the church, and then helped with set up. Then at the end of the party, since what comes out must go back, loaded it all back into his truck to be put back into storage until next year.
Jeff, along with my husband David, went on the “latke run” to pick them up from the Café.

Neil Goodman, although he could not attend the party due to another commitment, came over early to help with set up.

Rozann Newman and Katherine Koch cheerfully greeted everyone at the check in table.
Rozann also made a fabulous platter of salmon while Donna Small created a delicious brisket. Everyone else brought tasty side dishes and desserts. The food tables were loaded with an amazing array of delights.

A special shout out goes to Jay and Adrienne Carsman who gave us the huge blow up Hanukkiah that proudly sat at the back of the room.

We had new faces, familiar faces, young faces, and mature faces there. With music from the Musik Menches and our new Cantorial Soloist, Phoebe Light, we sang, danced and enjoyed this annual night of merriment.

Of special note, Reverend Randall Day, from St. Mark’s, in spite of a busy day on Sunday, was able to join the fun for a little while.

Happy Hanukkah to everyone!!!
