Arnold LeBlanc Songwriter Award Rebrands and Expands

The Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund's Arnold LeBlanc Songwriter Award will now be called the AJL Song Award in memory of Miramichi musician Jane LeBlanc and singer Arnold LeBlanc and will focus on hard rock and heavy metal in 2023.

In addition, the new celebrity music jury will now consider songwriting, vocals, and performance in their deliberations.

"We are very excited to have some heavy metal legends interested in being on our 2023 award jury," says Cat LeBlanc, JL Legacy Fund founder.

The revamped award will be accessible to different genres of music annually. The winner will also receive a complimentary one year membership with Music / Musique NB.

In 2022, the celebrity music jury (Lennie Gallant, Joel Plaskett, Jenn Grant, Rose Cousins, and Catherine MacLellan) focused on roots, folk, and country music. The winner was talented NB music artist and songwriter Jason Anderson. Jason won a cash prize for his song Together, Apart, which audiences can find on Spotify.

From the Late and Great Janey LeBlanc's Journals:

Photo of Jane in Portugal, 1986

"I'm leaving my Paris family at the end of March and meeting up with Walt and his boat in England. Then, we will sail to Portugal; Walt has friends there. Afterward, we adventure to the Canaries. Then, depending on the weather, we will sail to Brazil (I'll mail you some coffee beans), onto the Antilles where my dutch friend lives, then to Caracas and Ávila.

I have my guitar and will entertain if my friends don't throw me overboard. There are so many more places we plan on going but make sure dad is sitting down when you read this letter to him. I know how much you both worry about me.

I have to continue on this quest; I can't explain it.

I miss you all. I love you. Distance and time are making me, unlike myself, sentimental."
